I can understand a parent wanting to do what's best for their kids, but did this woman do this to help her kid, or did she do it so she could brag about her kid? There's an old saying, if you're not cheating, then you're not trying. (I think Bill Belichick lives by that saying) Anyway, who knew this sort of thing was a crime?

What gets me is how they seem to be going after the people who could pay to cheat but not the people who allowed them to cheat and would bump a kid who deserved to be admitted and did so for money. Without college admins being in on the scam there is no scam. Does anyone know what is happening to them?

Is anyone surprised a rich, white, DNC donor gets a slap on the wrist for cheating? I'm not....

I think mail fraud was the only actually "illegal" thing here and the institutions get off because technically they were not involved. Kind of complicated though and my opinion could be wrong .

So if I rob a bank and no one gets hurt, I shouldn't get anymore than a year if I have never broke the law before and I plead guilty.

SBB, what sort of punishment do you think is appropriate? To be honest, I have no idea what it should be.

Why do you think the institutions weren't involved? Someone from the colleges had to approve of those women and all the money these people spent had to go somewhere? I wasn't following this story that close, but now I'm kinda interested in how it happened from beginning to end.

Was she remanded into custody right away or does she get to "report to prison" on some future date? Poor folks are taken right into custody (assuming they were ever out on bail)

No the humiliation factor alone ISNT punishment. She arranged the SAT's to be done for her kid, and that damaged the whole system since it calls into question standardized testing that everyone uses. She should have gotten a year for that.

$30,000 fine and jail time and 240 hours community service seems appropriate to me. She already got burned for a bunch by paying to get her dumb kid into college. What would you suggest?

I think prisons should only be used as a last resort for dangerous criminals who pose a threat to the public. We here in the so called “land of the free” have more people locked up per capital than any country in the world already. And who the hell cares who she donates money to? What a stupid comment.

Exactly. It was a Fair Sentence under the Circumstances.

And, the idea (posted by some) that her being a DNC Donor is even relevant to the topic is Ludicrous and Completely Misguided.

I remember when I was a kid in court in Van Nuys California. There was a black guy who got hauled in for not paying his fine. He was in custody and the judge said:

30 days in the county jail forthwith.

The guy said, what does that mean?

Judge said, that means right now.

The guy says, who do I speak to about this?

Judge said: You just spoke to him....NEXT.

You should apply for a judgeship Mike. You have an acute sense of justice.

I wonder if William H. Macy is already texting Emmy Rossum for the long overdue hookup?

At least a year....and probation...she used her wealth and privledge to corrupt the college admission system. Colleges don't have an unlimited amount of seats, she stole someone who deserved to be there's spot. She poses a threat...she's a thief.

Yes, we lock people up we don't execute them like Iran, NK, Cuba, China etc. But,with that said, part of the reason we have so many locked up is because of massive sentence for drug offenses, largely due to the Biden Crime Bill signed into law by Clinton. Unfortuately, that only really affected poor minority families, and not the uber rich Hollywood elites that buy their kids way into college, and buy protection from those crimes by their political donations.

Poor comparison. You don't know the difference between armed robbery and mail fraud?
