Because fear strengthens our enemies. If you are interested in "God Talk", then be aware that all through the Bible, God states, "do not fear, do not be afraid, have courage". Trump may not be devout, or may...I don't know...but moving our embassy to the capital as stated by our ally is righteous and strengthens our position in front of those who are our enemies.

Past governments were afraid of our enemies, and we supplied Palestinian Authority with the money to pay off the murderer of an American citizen, Taylor Force, and we catered to the demands of those who are not our friends. To shake in fear is not a way to keep our citizens safe. Israelis help us fight terrorism. Palestian authority celebrate and pay for the death of American citizens.

It should be a no brainer where we should stand with our friends and enemies.

But what if the promises he made are really stupid? There are two reasons the US has not moved the embassy to Jerusalem. 1. Prior admins wanted the US to be viewed as an accepted peace broker by both sides. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem has always been considered as a provocation to the Palestinian side seeing as they have held out hope East Jerusalem would be made their capital in a two state solution to the conflict. 2. The US has used a refusal to move the embassy as a bargaining chip in getting Israel to make concessions necessary for peace. The international community does not recognize Israel's occupation of East Jerusalem as legally legitimate and has condemned Israel for locating settlements there.

This said, President Trump has explained he wants to change strategy in a radically way. In more than 20 years, not moving the embassy hasn't helped the peace process ... let's try to move the embassy and let's see what happens!
