I found my way back again. Place I have been for the past 10 years is not much fun any more. Too much negativity. So...a friend from there who is also here told me to get back to PF for some fresh air. Are y'all fresh?:D

This place is poisonous as well. We are in two distinct camps. Pick one and have fun.

I do wonder sometimes whether discussing politics is a waste of time. Dems can usefully discuss who is the best Dem for their side, and R's can do the same, but really we speak different languages and have no shared values. What's to talk about? How dumb and immoral you or I are/am?

Yep, there is a lot of talking at and past each other on here. I've referred to it as political trench warfare when you have sides dug in and taking shots at each other.

Of course, those on the right are more to blame. They're the ones who've embraced a caustic con man and his lickspittle copycats (such as Gaetz and Greene). It's their party that is obstructionist and dealing in conspiracy theories, crazy accusations and other fictions, and that has been the way since the Obama years at least.

I would have "liked" your post, but then you went with the con man stuff and ruined the first paragraph which I did like. :(

But he is a con man. It shouldn't be a political issue to call a con man out for what he is. If he hadn't gotten into politics and had stuck with ripping off contractors and Trump University students, there wouldn't be much argument from anyone.

I was hoping you other post was an example of the 'trench warfare', but since you followed up with this, I guess it's not.

Trump is an egotistical twit, but exactly what did he 'con' people about?

To paraphrase one example: We're going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it. Believe me!

So how is that a 'con'? Is every politicians unkept promise a 'con'?

An even better example would be his tax returns, of course. There's a promise he could have kept with no trouble, but he instead fought tooth and nail to keep them strictly confidential.

And the wall was a con because it was also never going to work as promised, anyway, and was based on a heap of lies about a fake crisis.

So does every unkept promise by any politician be treated as a 'con'?

Exactly what do you think would have been learned from his tax returns that were so vital? I haven't bothered looking at ANY POTUS' tax returns because they don't actually tell you anything. Because he didn't do something that other POTUS's did, that was a 'con'?

The word 'liar', while still stretching it, would be more appropriate. Nothing he did while POTUS was a 'con'.

I disagree. Exactly what was Trumps personal benefit?

Every single politician, regardless of political position, makes promises that are not kept.

What did Trump have to gain by promising to release his tax returns but then never following through? I can tell you what he had to gain by lying about it as he did -- the presidency.

You think that releasing one's tax returns actually 'gained him the Presidency'?

What does someone's tax returns actually show that would have you deciding to vote for someone or not?

Every politician makes promises that are not kept, but President Trump reached a new level:

Mexico will pay for the wall
I will not play golf, only work, work, work
I will reveal my tax returns
The corona virus will miraculously disappear in April
    I will drain the swamp
By cutting taxes (for himself and the wealthy 14%, for the working Americans 2-4%) I will reduce the national debt

    Trump benefits:
