The vast majority of murders in the US happen in very specific places.

Idaho and Montana are full of guns, for example, but there's almost zero murder there (gun or otherwise).

    https://crimeresearch.org/2017/04/n...54-us-counties-2014-zero-murders-69-1-murder/

Moreover, murder rate fluctuations are driven entirely by minority violence.

I have NOT Misrepresented British Culture or British Police, New Scotland Yard, in fact, I admire British Culture, Tea, architecture, how homes are set up, and services etc...
I am not overly critical of the legislations regarding firearms except to say I have lived through the like.

And you did mention a truth, here in America most crime and murder is a result of organized criminal activity, Gang and Drug related, this being the main factor behind my decision to seek a Police appointment as opposed to another perhaps lucrative career choice.

I doubt thats true... but if it is, its a bit disinegenous to say 'The US' when >90% of the violence comes from a handful of cities. Come to the non-urban US and you're safer than just about anywhere on the planet (unless seeing hillbillies hurts you, which it does seem to hurt some folks... somehow).

Yep, and non-urban US with more guns than people is a far safer place to live.

Where I live, pretty much everyone is carrying.

The main problem is Gun control advocates not seeing a difference between criminals and law abiding people, and wanting to restrict and ban firearms from the people less likely to commit crimes.

The key word is vetting, and in spite of accusations, there are no Lax Gun laws anywhere in the U.S., and in order to purchase a firearm, a full background check is conducted involving the National crime computer network and super fast.

Given that now most records are digitally compiled and many older non complete records are obsolete as the involved criminals are either very old and or incapacitated or deceased.

Between the instant check and form 4473, and prohibited people such as Felons and Mentally ill people, it being a Felony for such to purchase, posses or carry a firearm open or concealed, this completely negates the falsehood of Lax Gun Laws in any State.

Criminals... and those who want the state to have a monopoly on force.

The vast majority of homicides are committed by "the criminal class." That would include African American males under the age of 45 and Hispanics's especially illegals and first generation as well as those engaged in the drug trade. Otherwise, homicide rates, especially among Whites would be very close to your own. The city of Chicago is a perfect human lab for testing.

Pray tell what is rational about the licensing system that is in place in the united kingdom, and the need for numerous letters of reference from those willing to testify to the character of the applicant?

When someone KNOWS nobody else has a gun, they rape and plunder with impunity. When someone doesn't know who else is armed they must consider their moves carefully or risk death or injury...

Cuz being stabbed, chopped or beaten to death is more civilized than being shot?

to him it is. it appears that he was traumatized when he was in the states by an armed citizen. we haven't figured out what caused an honest citizen to do something that caused that level of psychic trauma though

Before the gun bans there was very low crime of any kind. After the gun ban gun crime and all other crimes surged up.

Gun bans encourage crime. The UK has become a crime ridden hell hole.

"The ban on handguns after the Dunblane
massacre has failed to halt either the
rise in armed crime or to undermine the
British appetite for shooting sports. To
the dismay of campaigners, who hoped the
tragedy would instill a lasting sense of
public revulsion over firearms, guns are
again fashionable in Britain." Ian Burrell,
    Home Affairs Correspondent, "After five
    years, Dunblane remembers," "Tragedy has
done little to quash appetite for gunplay,"
    The Independent, 3/13/2001.

The first step to reform and a better life is to admit your failures.

In the US, for every gun used to commit murder yesterday, 16,000,000 were not.
This says all that need be said.

    I would indeed add;
The many Law Abiding gun owners with concealed carry that have thwarted crime, prevented Rapes etc...

The ones the Anti Gun Clack say does NOT exist, the Good Guy with a Gun, they are in Denial, it is not just a river in Egypt.....

Should I preach my ideas on gun ownership to a resident of London? Or would it be better to educate them on what parts of their city are the most violent, and to advise them to be more aware and avoid them?
Likewise, how would someone like you know how violent a given area where we live in is, and how we should be armed?

Crime is a function of demographics, their culture and how well the justice system is enforced in a given place.

You know what I find strange ?
Young males, teens break into a home, and get shot, some die, the others arrested,
And someone calls those boys, victims of
"Gun Violence" and tabulates it as such !
"Concealed carry killers" is another moniker added to the colorful metaphors.

How do criminals suddenly turn into victims ?

That's why the gun-phobes or freedom-phobes like to use the term "shooters" instead of "killers."

"crimes involving firearms in England and Wales increased by 27% to 6,696 in the year ending June 2017"

    That is Low ?
Not hardly, and turn them in ? Why ?
If anyone uses a firearm in a crime, throw it in the Thames, or hit it with a blow torch, or change the ballistics, turning it in for latter possible prosecution is ludicrous, at least N.Y.P.D. gives amnesty from investigation and prosecution on firearms turned in.

Depends on where you live, I guess.

I have only limited experience of living in America.
How American's should be armed is their own business as far as I am concerned.

I've seen one gunfight in the US. I've been present at another but only found out about it on the news when I got home.
I was in LA during the Crips vs Bloods days. Rap tourism, what. Red is my colour.

To be quite honest with you I haven't ever perceived myself to be threatened in America. Haven't felt any need to arm myself there at all. Not once.
I do however very much enjoy shooting all sorts of fancy guns when I am visiting.

I would not contradict anything you have said here, and if we were in your favorite pub having some pints, I am sure I would be reasonably safe, I doubt you would seek me harm...

In any case, I have survived encounters with Armed Villains and not of my choice or fault, and I survived the aftermath of Investigations and bloody rot, and fully exonerated of any charges.
Fighting to get my credentials and sidearm back.......
