I think it was something from The Beatles but I don't remember what. Probably "I wanna hold your hand". I was in 6th grade. Or was it 5th?

I can clearly remember riding my bicycle to Zody's to buy Heart of Gold.

After that I joined the Columbia record club and bought many records from them. I was in that for years. But it was a big deal for me when I bought my first record.

You purchased a record when you were what, 5? That is a child's song. Did you really have money to buy things as a little child?

$5 a week?!?! Wow!!! I got something like 50 cents a week. I didn't really have money to buy things until I started mowing yards.

Well, we were middle class living in a new house that had things like central heat and air...I had to do chores for that money, plus I could make five cents a pound picking up pecans on my Papa's farm.

I had plenty of chores but didn't get 5 bucks a week! I could make a little extra by washing the car. But that all went towards paying off my stuff for Scouts.

I always knew my parents were hard asses! LOL!!!

Do you remember the song, "One toke over the line"?
I could never tell if they were singing about smoking weed or religion.

Yeah, I remember wondering about the meaning of that song. I also remember by dad ranting about Hey Jude.

The first major purchase I ever made with my own money was for a set of weights. Funny huh! I was probably just beyond ten or eleven years old and I was lifting weights. Not sure about the year. But I know by 13 I was getting pecks and freaked out because I thought I was growing boobs.

I didn't pay for the TV it was a present. I did a lot of military equipment models and they were fifteen cents to a dollar for the big models..Triple feature at the movies on Saturday's cost fifty cents, candy, popcorn and soda was another fifty cents.

My parents were very liberal about music and never talked about it.

Yep, until I started mowing yards, all of my money went for Saturday Matinees, and fire crackers.

Hahaha, I loved Tom Snyder. He was sort of a goof and had a dorky laugh but was a very likable guy. And he did some great interviews. I was watching him do the local news long before he had his own show.

I don't know if you are from the Los Angeles area, but he did the news with a woman who was very attractive... I should be able to remember her name but it isn't coming to me right now. They had a lot of open flirtation and Tom would get a little carried away at times. I remember him getting his ass in a ringer from time to time but not with her. He ticked off one of the other women there. But that just made him more entertaining. In fact at some point I saw him mentioned as one of the people who really changed the way news was done. Before Snyder it was still stiff and reserved. But he threw out the old rules and made it fun.

Oh I remember, her name was Kelly Lange. I just checked and she's 80 now but still around. Back when she was first doing the local news she was hottie. And she obviously liked the flirtations with Snyder... at least most of the time.
