    In the NFL where 70 percent of players are minorities — blacks have been hired for only two of the 19 open head coaching spots over the last three years.

    “It’s very discouraging that this continues to happen,’’ said Richard Lapchick, the director of the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at Central Florida. ``It’s not like there are no qualified candidates. These people are out there and ready.’’

    Why is it OK for a majority of the players to be minorities but not OK for a majority of the coaches to be white? Looks to me like the player and coaches' decisions are based on talent. So why is anyone concerned with percents? I believe if the owners needed a head coach and knew of a black coach who could win they would be quick to hire him. Lapchick seems to gain recognition by pushing "racial equality". Maybe he should advocate for more white NFL players to balance the racial imbalance.
