Canada greatly restricts handguns (not long guns) and has a lot fewer gun deaths.

No they make them easier to get. Making them illegal will make them much cheaper because former legal owners will want to unload them quickly.

Don't forget the number of guns in the US is between 300&500 million.

Laws won't make them disappear. In fact it's just make most people outlaws.

There are thousands and thousands of schools in the country and it wasn’t gangbangers who shot up the schools. I am an educator not a cowgirl! Do you carry a gun when you go to work?

Not really. Most of the guns used in homicide are illegally owned. Laws did nothing.

Why would form a legal gun owners want to unload them quickly when criminals would pay big bucks?

Why would criminals pay big bucks when the market was flooded with illegal guns?

If guns become illegal the market will not be flooded with them right now they can get going cheaply. There were some states who paid people to surrender guns

Why should teachers be exposed to violence in the workplace? You should remove unruly students.

Why should store employees (educators in the public school "education store) have to arm themselves to defend against the customers?

Why wouldn't it. Presumably 3-500 million guns would become illegal to own.

If you add that many into the market it's flooded.

If the country spent 5 BILLION dollars buying back guns that would mean 16 dollars a gun. If a criminal would pay 30, that would be twice what you could get selling it to the government. That's way cheaper than they are now.

To buy them away from citizens at a reasonable average price of 600 bucks a piece it would cost 180 billion dollars. And if you had a gun you spent 2500 dollars on and sold it to a criminal for 1300 you'd have every incentive to do that.

See post # 322 - its nowhere near as rare as you want to think.

Beyond that.... I didn't see your responses to the other points put to you.
Care to give it a try, or should I accept your concession?

What other rights should the state make it hard for the law abiding to exercise?

Most teachers don't want any teachers to carry. They don't like the idea of students thinking they might be carrying, or students thinking they could be shot by a teacher.

Rational or not, their thinking impacts their decision to seek employment as a teacher.

I'm talking about teachers being expected to defend their students with a firearm.

The issue is around teachers defending their customers (students) and defending themselves from their customers. (There were more than 200,000 physical assaults on teachers last year.)

Why shouldn't the employer deal with the problem?

At this point, we would have to take rather drastic measures--laws with nasty penalties--to get rid of the guns and laws banning most new sales.

No one is asking you to carry a weapon you don't want to carry.. how many times does it have to be said????

As gun numbers in America has gone up gun crime has gone down..

The problem is not related to the number of guns. The problem is related to the number of people not willing to follow the simple rules of right and wrong.

I don't think that would work either I think it would require a civil war.

So that means ... please correct me if I am wrong ... that your country is so crammed with legal and illegal guns that every madman and psychopath who wants to make a rampage / amok run, can't really be prevented by the police preventive or immediate just because every jerk can easily have a legal or illegal gun.
So you have to arm your teachers in the schools and make them auxiliary police to counter the danger to your children ...

f so, then let me put it medically:

You fight only the symptoms ... but not the disease itself!

OK ... but then explain me, why to drink alcohol in a bar is for an 18 year old chap more dangerous to prevent it by law to be minimum age 21 to do legally ... as to buy a shot gun or whatever rifle!

I thought it was FL and started to post that but naturally wiki screwed me up with this line
and I got confused. In a hurry I didn't read much further or I would have seen it.
