This is is was basically a terrorist and a narco in Colombia, and now he is the president. This is not a good thing, considering Colombians have been cooperating with US in war on drugs, but this guy might shut the doors.

Florida concerned about Petro’s election in Colombia. It’s ‘disastrous,’ says DeSantis

A former member of the M-19 guerrilla group, Gustavo Petro, 62, won the race on Sunday by a small margin to become the first leftist president in the country’s history. His election heralds a new era of changes for a country traditionally ruled by conservatives and moderates.

“The results of that election have been very, very troubling for people who believe in freedom in the Western Hemisphere; to elect a former narco-terrorist and a Marxist to lead Colombia is gonna be disastrous,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, said at a press conference near Jacksonville. “We were all hoping that the outcome would be different, but we’ve got a problem in the Western Hemisphere with Marxism, with totalitarianism, really spreading.”

Meh. Leave it to a RINO like Ron to whine about democracy working as intended.

    2018:
Petro's platform emphasized support for universal health care, public banking, a rejection of proposals to expand fracking and mining in favor of investing in clean energy, and land reform.

    2022:
Petro’s campaign platform included promoting green energy over fossil fuels and a decrease in economic inequality.[64] He has promised to focus on climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause it by ending fossil fuel exploration in Colombia.[64] He also pledged to raise taxes on the wealthiest 4,000 Colombians and said that neoliberalism would ultimately "destroy the country".

No wonder Radical Ron doesn't like him!

By the way, the last time we heard so much whining about Marxism from a right-wing leader was in the 1930s and 40s. ;)

I'm not buying all the talk about "Marxism" either, because the word has lost all its meanings after FOX and other RW MSM used it to describe everything they don't like. Initially I thought he was a member of the Farc, which is a commie group, but it looks like he was a member of a left wing nationalist group. Not sure what this means to US-Colombia relations, and what it means even for Colombia. They have always had a conservative (their version of it) government, which has been very corrupt. For the sake of comparison, he does not like what Maduro has done in Venezuela.

I'm sure he's more of a problem for the likes of DeSantis than for the US as a whole.

If they let the Narco's operate with impunity, then it will have an impact on US, and we could see another epidemic, like we had in the 1980s. Bodies were piling up fast. Also, if he goes all-in with extreme politics, then we'll start see migrants from Colombia.

I don't support this bloke, but what business is it of Florida's? Who cares what some little country in a different hemisphere does?

Florida is by my calculations one of the best places to live on Earth. DeSantis should be more grateful for what he has and stop bothering with what others are doing.

I dunno if he would do that. Either way, though, the best way to curtail the drug problem is to eliminate the market for illegal drugs in the US. Less outlawing and more help and treatment for addicts would be a good start.

Good Christ, our entire Cocaine Importing Agency is run by narco-terrorists. This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

The cartels would never let this happen. Not in a million years.

I know you're not the most emphatic supporter of Capitalism, but even you'd have to admit that American corporations would compete them out of business within about 30 seconds of legality and deregulation.

I doubt anyone would care what the cartels have to say about it.
