I called this and was told no it would never happen. Governor Rick Scott stepping up. He has an A+ rating with the NRA, and he is telling the Florida legislature what he wants to see on his desk. Or similar. He has full support or nearly.

That age limit on Assault Rifles is going to 21 in Florida

Every single point I have made as a proud NRA member Governor Scott is echoing. This man is seriously conservative.

I absolutely love these mental health processes and checks and balances. Gotta love conservative governors.

“I want to make it virtually impossible for anyone who has mental issues to use a gun,” said Mr. Scott, who is widely expected to run for a United States Senate seat this year. “I want to make it virtually impossible for anyone who is a danger to themselves or others to use a gun.”

Cynically I would point out that session is over in about a month and major legislation will be difficult to pass now. Scott won't be around after this year, but is running for US senator in the fall. So he can take this position and know nothing will actually be done about it :p

Of course you would. Anyone would.
However I am here in Florida and items are already being put on the floor to be discussed. By the people that count. It's going to get fast tracked. 100s of millions allocated possibly

I knew this was happening days ago but I waited until I saw how primarily Floridas House Speaker was rolling.

Governor Scott has alot of clout. Fast track legislation and extensive. Our US Congress could learn a lesson or two.

    Good.

When it has zero effect we can use it as an example of stupid laws that don't work.

I live in Tallahassee, I am a data analyst for the State of Florida. Scott tried to get money for programs he wanted last year for business expansion and failed. The legislature knows he is a lame duck and likely posturing for votes.

We shall see. You should know just how extremely anti-gun control this legislature is.

Hey are state employees going to get raises (I know we are not its just a joke. It will be awesome to see Scott go. We will never have such an anti-state employee governor again).

Not much you can do at this point.

It is a societal problem as you mentioned, it will take decades to repair what the left has done to this nation.

More than likely its too late to fix it at this point.

The only real thing to do is hope we have enough guns in place to shoot these guys dead before they do too much damage.

Most laws don't work perfectly. There are a lot of drugs and murders in the US. Should we get rid of every law that does not work perfectly?

    "enough" guns in place.

    Hmm'

There were FOUR armed personnel.......at the recent shooting........ and how reliable where they??

There are more guns than there are PROLE in the US. By any standards that should be more than too many

The issue is NOT Left or right It is a PEOPLE issue.

You are right though. IT IS TOO LATE.

NO country would allow itself to be strangled by the NRA and other lobbyists. to that extreme degree.

The population actually has a high tolerance for shootings........ as in reality they are common place now. Guns are part of the cultural mindset Guns & shootings are the norm.....

No one has the motivation to make the really HARD decisions as politics are more important than human lives. Prioritises are all screwed up. The US is a dangerous country. What a tragedy.

How many missed opportunities were there, using existing laws, to stop the shooter?
