Florida now has America's lowest COVID rate. Does Ron DeSantis deserve credit?

The lesson is to do nothing, and then only take snapshots of the times your state isn't ******** the bed to prove that it didn't have infections and deaths through the roof at other times?

That would require the suspension of logic and reason.

According to Florida Health, and as of Dec 3rd, Florida had 61,131 Covid coded deaths, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, “RESIDENTS ONLY”, and most States are reporting both Resident and Non-resident Covid Coded deaths.

Maybe the person who posted that in Twitter - and you - could have engaged some common sense and asked why there's a perfectly clean linear break in Covid transmission between Florida and Georgia/Alabama.

Is there an impregnable wall preventing transmission to/from neighboring states? No.

The CDC didn't receive any data from Florida over Thanksgiving and mistakenly used blue for "low" transmission instead of grey for "no data".

PCR tests only catch about 80% of infections on day of symptom onset. Before then they catch only 0-50%. This means MANY more people have had a Covid infection than are diagnosed by PCR. So the survival rate would actually increase accounting for those missed infections.

I don’t care one way or the other—have no dog in the fight. But that’s the math and science of it.

The correct answer has always been to do nothing keep you the individual safe through your own actions and continue on with your life because the virus doesn't give a s*** either way

You keep saying that without proof. Florida state law requires every Covid death in the state to be recorded.

FL and NY have very comparable number of deaths per million of the population. For Florida, 2,870 (9th in the US). for NY, 2,995 (6th in the US). You have to realize that NY got the first wave of the pandemic, thanks to all the tourists that go there from all over the world, at a time when we didn't know how to treat Covid-19, a time when the case-fatality rate was much higher than now (we didn't have several different drugs, we didn't know we shouldn't intubate early, we didn't have vaccines). So given Florida's more favorable timing when they had their surge, regarding the tools available to medicine, I'd say that their result of 2,870 deaths per million inhabitants is worse than NY's. Had FL had their surge at the time when NY had theirs, most certainly FL's numbers would be worse.

Of course "cases have dropped significantly" when a huge wave goes away. It happened in NY too when their wave went away.

    Brace for Omicron.

Oh, ok--it's a good thing to have higher infection and death rates. Got it.

    I don’t agree.
Florida was first to get delta wave. We are done with delta here, but NY is still getting pounded by it. I think by the end of this winter NY numbers will be a lot worse.

Your source was talking about 1 hospital, I believe. Anyone in Florida can get a free (to them) covid test at any local pharmacy. I live here, I’ve taken these tests numerous times.
Also, majority of covid tests are performed outside of hospitals when people get initial symptoms, so this shortage affects very few people.

    It reads:
an August survey by the American Association of Clinical Chemistry indicated that 67 percent of laboratories were having issues getting reagents and COVID-19 testing kits

I'm talking about deaths, not cases.

NY got the first wave when we had no clue how to treat Covid-19 (actually some of our treatments made it worse), we had no approved drugs for Covid like Remdesivir and monoclonal antibody cocktails, we didn't know that dexamethasone and enoxaparin were essential, and most importantly we didn't have vaccines. People were dying like flies! Just imagine what would have happened if Florida had the first nationwide wave back them, with your good governor actively working against many mitigation measures.

When you face a surge in a time when the case-fatality rate is 3.5% and there are no vaccines or treatments, that's very different from facing one when the CFR is under 0.5% AND you have vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.

NY is well-vaccinated now so we'll see if it gets a lot worse there.

And Omicron is coming. It re-infects people who had Covid-19 before. So don't be so certain that Florida is out of the woods. I've seen this movie before... people feel they turned the corner, but then the virus throws another curveball.

    I don’t know.
    I live in Florida.
My wife and I took tests a few times in Walgreens. We never paid for any of them and we got our results without any delays.

Well if it wasn't for the shitty leadership sticking covid infected people into old age homes backed by the current trans health general whatever...probably didn't help.

Oh and you forgot to also include that Florida's median age is older than NY by 3 years. And is generally seen as a place to go where people wish to retire. An older population much more vulnerable to covid since data clearly shows that it tend to target the elderly.

So thanks for your bias hot take, doc.

You likely are simply not aware that when this all started in 2020, several doctors went public, showing letters from CDC or other government branches instructed doctors to change long-held practices in filling out death certificates. Sorry for no link, but one of them was Dr. Annie Bukacek from Kallispell Montana. She addressed her small church. Naturally, for telling the truth and spilling the beans, she was quickly vilified by media and the medical industrial complex. Too much truth from Dr. Annie.

I do........Florida Health stopped reporting Non-Resident Covid Cases and Deaths June 2021.

Google.......Covid19; Summary of Cases and Monitoring - Florida Department of Health......data through June 2, 2021

Note; Back then, Florida Health reported both Resident and Non-Resident “Lab confirmed” Covid Cases and Deaths.

Since mid June, 2021, Florida Health only reported Lab confirmed Resident Covid Cases and Deaths

Google.......Covid19 Weekly Situation Report; State Overview - Florida Department Of Health

    Note; Residents only

    ————

In addition, since the beginning of the pandemic, Florida Health has only submitted their number of Resident Covid coded Deaths to the CDC, and excluded Probable/Suspected Covid Deaths

Last, since the beginning of the pandemic, Worldometer have been reporting both Florida’s Resident and Non-resident Covid Cases, however, Resident Covid deaths only.

You can't demonstrate that all you can do is insist that probably means you are lying to yourself.

You keep making a claim you can’t back up. Florida law says all Covid deaths have to be recorded.
