Then why do so many tens of thousands of prohibited individuals continue to acquire and possess firearms every single year?

Beyond that matter, the licensing board for the state of New York was caught, by the FBI no less, in the act of taking bribes to issue firearm permits to individuals who could not legally possess firearms to begin with.

cause they break the law and buy guns from criminals.

or through private sales which dont require background checks

    1 is too many.

    10 is a tragedy.

    100 is a national crisis.

    your opinion-I don't agree.

a national waste of money-spending millions to pretend we have done something

a national tragedy -honest people being improperly denied purchasing a gun due to errors in the data base

but rather than fixing the database and modernizing the system, you want to KILL the system cause you think a background check violates the 4th Amendment.

    which is really stupid.

No, incorrect, the pistol licence division run by N.Y.P.D. of the City of New York, 1 Police Plaza, N.Y. N.Y. nothing to do with The State of New York Administration or the State Police.

don't you? the background check requires dealers to do something. Where did congress properly get that power?

Turtledude opposes background checks, regardless if we fix the system.

no one is exactly sure why.

...AND we require a photo ID when someone buys a gun, and we've had that requirement for a very long time. I don't mind showing my ID when I buy a gun.

your ID doesn't prove you're not a felon escaped from prison, or a murderer with a warrant for your arrest.

thats what background checks are for, Sherlock

I am going to ask something: You speak of Japan and their laws. Yet, I point out that we have states here with low rates of crime and violence with very lax gun laws and you reject that because of the higher suicide rate we supposedly have. Are you aware that Japan has a suicide rate over twice as high as our homicide rate?? Despite their draconian gun laws?

You've already illustrated your totalitarian rejection of the innocent until proven guilty philosophy, so I won't waste my time trying to explain it to you, "Sherlock".

Straw purchases are already illegal under all circumstances, and classified as being felonies. Nothing more can be done on the matter. And since the ATF will not prosecute straw purchasers, even when the evidence of their crimes are well documented, there is no point in trying anything further to address the matter.

And as was observed in the state of Texas, the system does not work unless all relevant information is actually made available to the system. Even if someone is a felon, or has a warrant out for their arrest, the system will not catch them if the records from the state are not kept up to date. There are far too many things that can possibly go wrong.

Yeah, you can cram that strawman where the sun don't shine.

Criminals don't go through legitimate outlets to get guns. The only people inconvenienced by BGC are the law-abiding.

Too many people don't care about the Constitution at all, and are fine with ignoring it when they find it inconvenient... and too many of them are judges sitting on the Federal bench these days.
