How can Americans not realize how horrible their food is and not be deeply angered at the tyranny of their governmental system at destroying their lives for the benefit of the vampiric rich?

The average US Super Market is a processed food wasteland of depravity and abuse. The bread is not bread. The cheese is not cheese. The meat is from malnourished diseased drug fed animals. The vegetables are high yield low protein Frankenstein food.

Have you never tried French cream! Have you never eaten well fed calf! Have you never tried English biscuits!

Forget the high fructose corn syrup "English Muffins"! Forget the sickly puss water milk! Forget the drug fed animal meat!

There is a reason you are sickly ill and low on charge. You hav never eaten! You have never eaten!

Sadly, you are correct. The corporate profit margins have created this mess of crap they call food. Walmart is going to be selling genetically modified corn soon, and guess what? They'll not distinguish it from real corn. Lost cost....high profit. The fat cats are going to kill us all.

Australia is not much better thanks to mega supermarkets by Woolworths, Coles and the like. Where they fail is in the fresh (oxymoron) fruit and vegetable departments.

Living in Laos, I now know how bad Australian fruit and vegetables really are. Every time I go back home I just shake my head and wonder how Australians can eat that sh!t.

Most supermarkets sell natural and additive-free foods (ex. organic, cage-free eggs) in addition to the lab-created dung that gets scraped off the slaughterhouse floor, mixed with paint-thinner and brake fluid, and served up to McDonald's customers. So you're wrong, healthy food does exist, albeit often for a higher price.

For example whenever I shop at Wal-Mart, I always buy 100% whole wheat bread. I'd sooner eat a can of cigarette butts than buy white bread. In a study, lab rats which were fed only white bread died within a few months.

There are many places to get organic, natural foods, and free-range meat because there is a market for it...

Sucks that we have to pay a higher price for food that won't cause our children to grow extra (*)(*)(*)(*)ing limbs or some (*)(*)(*)(*). I'm with you on the organic, but (*)(*)(*)(*) that ish is expensive!

    Yup, never eat white bread!

British cuisine? Is there such a thing. The Brits do have Gordon Ramsey, although I believe he spends most of his time in the U.S.

People want to blame corporations but all they provide is what the public demands. I switched and do not eat almost any processed foods, only fresh veggies and fruit and if I can find it, range fed beef and chicken, fish, nuts and no grains, almost no dairy (heavy cream in my coffee and butter sometimes). My health has improved. The problem is you have to be able to afford to eat this way and many cannot.

I shudder at the thought of eating at McDonalds though my favorite was the bacon cheeseburger. I also got Shigellosis from eating at McDonalds once.

As a big government socialist Mr. Marshall, why don't you demand that the government stop the unhealthy food stamp program? For the 46 million on the program, among the most lazy and unproductive people on the earth, they will usually fill up their shopping carts with every sugary, fatty and unwholesome ready-made food, just with the swipe of a yellow card.

If there MUST be food entitlements, then there should only be healthy, natural commodities: Rice, beans, butter, whole wheat flour, milk---even if foods are dehydrated or canned. Yes I do understand that it takes more time and energy for a welfare rat to bake bread or even a cook a pot of rice, than to tear open a bag of potato chips. But this will help them grow as human beings. As for the children of these lazy moochers, the vast majority of them are double-dippers and receive free school and daycare meals---usually two a day.

The myth that US Corporations are successful because the people want it, that the people gobble up that food, is a shameful one. Yes.. People gobble up that food, however it is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Do you not realize that the same corporations that manufacture US Laboratory Foods, also manufacture US Health Foods, often created in the same laboratory? Do you realize that large agricultural companies have lobbied and wielded regulation against small enterprise? That they say a larger outfit is more able to apply safe handling practices? It is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing joke.

Your organic food is every bit as unorganic as the rest. Please... Try and (*)(*)(*)(*)ing buy REAL corn. The kind the Native Americans used to grow, with high protein low yield. There are only a few specialty shops in existence that haven't been stomped out. The do-called organic variety is the same high-yield strain that the US genetically produced. They have perverted the laws so dramatically.

You simply MUST travel the world as I have to realize there is no protein in your milk. There are no nutrients in your veggies. There is no bread in your bread. There is no cheese in your cheese. And there ARE chemicals, and drugs, and hormones, and gene splicing, and laboratory science experiments in the name of one thing... PROFIT. Not health. Not ethos. Not righteousness. Not mass production for the sake to feed your population. GREED. GREED. The only source for the apparent and obvious effect of what they have done, and what they are doing... Is, GREED.

I am worse for you than a big government socialist. I am a FAIR MARKET CAPITALIST. Obviously. Why else would I be complaining. You know this is a rich and diverse world. I have obviously studied and respected Western Theory. Now I am asking you to live up to the delusion of your grandeur.

Notice that I said fair-market and not free-for-all-market. You will find comfort that there is still something you are able to object to.

No they are not.....You go to any supermarket in America....Meijers, Kroger, Marsh, you name them, and you will find a bunch of disgusting processed boxed foods, meats with additives in them to make them look fresher, and make them last longer while sacrificing nutrition, and fruits and vegetables covered in pesticides.

The few organic, chemical free foods sold are kept in a small area and sold for double the price of everything else. The average person can not afford organic foods in America.

I've never understood why cattle have to be fed hormones to fatten them up. Can't the ranchers just grow a couple extra steers to meet their poundage requirements?

Most Americans are quite healthy. You are believing tin-hat conspiracy theories.

Complete ignorant nonsense. Hard to believe you would spend your time on such crap.

Cream is one of the worst foods for fat content. Veal production started in Italy and France when dairy farmers had excess bull-calves (a dairy cow must give birth in order to maximize milk production) these calves were sold for meat. In America, the production of these calves is basically the same as everywhere else in the world. Many Americans do not condone the killing of young calves for food unlike Europe but then, when you have such a restricted food supply you have to eat whatever you can get your hands on I guess.

    More 'tin-hat' conspiracy crap.

Nonsense, most Americans are quite healthy. Gourmet food is ubiquitous in America, one can choose to eat whatever diet they wish from grocery store to local 'farmers market' food producers. Unlike Socialist Europe, Americans have a wide choice of healthy food.

First off, they are not 'fed' hormones because the digestive system would destroy them. They are actually implanted in the ears of cattle. These hormones increase meat yield by 100lb or more per head of cattle. It is so effective that about 30% of cattle in Europe have these implants even though it is illegal. There is no proof that these hormones are in any way deleterious to human beings.

In the US, antibiotic residue in meat is not allowed by the USDA which routinely tests for it. If antibiotic residue is found, that meat is condemned and cannot be sold. The antibiotics prevent illnesses in cattle and keeps diseased cattle from the market and thus a safer food supply, I'd think hard about that before eating non American raised beef.

I don't eat corn or drink milk. I don't eat cheese or bread. I buy veggies from local farmer's markets. I don't buy health food, I buy food and cook it myself. People have choices and I am tired of the arrogance shown by some people that they have to be taken care of by others. Corporations could not sell the food they produce if people did not buy it, plain and simple. They may create a demand by producing something that people like, but their purchase makes it possible to sell, so yes, corporations fill a market want or need.

Therein lies my question. Wouldn't raising a few more head of leaner cattle also increase the meat yield?

Of course, we're relying on the USDA for proof, and the cattlemen have a big lobby. I think the fact that people are much fatter these days than they were 50 years ago contradicts the proof.

Not true at all. The average person eats a large quantity of fast food, which costs just as much or more than fresh food. And don't let me get started on people who smoke. If they completely cut fast food out of their diet, they'd easily be able to afford it.

Most people are simply financially irresponsible - that's why they "can't afford" anything. Billionare Warren Buffet lives more frugally than many welfare recipients do - Warren Buffet still drives his old Lincoln he purchased years ago - I've seen people on welfare or living in govt. housing who've taken out loans to ride around in Cadillacs.

Hormones are used so cattle, chickens etc grow faster. The faster they grow the faster they get to market. The faster they get to market the faster dollars are made.

Franken foods??? Oh for pity sake more of this garbage. People are on average fatter today than they were forty years ago because most get up from their desk at work and go home and sit on the (*)(*)(*)(*) sofa and watch TV, and eat like there going to run a marathon and wrestle a 500 pound steer afterward. If you match your alorie intake t your calorie output you weight will stabilize right where its at. Reduce the intake a bit lower and you'll lose weight. It's how much you eat vs the amount of exercise you do not what you eat that causes obesity.

By the way did you know that the leading cause of blindness in Asia is vitamin A deficiency. Golden Rice is simply rice with a protein molecule from a carrot added to it so that you now have rice that contains vitamin A. With in a genration maybe to VitaminA defieciency blindness will be gone from even the poorest parts of Asia.
