1) You are proud to be from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, or another of the confederate states and/or have ancestors who bravely fought for what they believed in at the time. 2) You like the way it looks. 3) You are tired of all this politically correct crap and reserve the right to display anything you want on your property or your car. 4) Like many Americans from both the North and the South, you are a history buff and value historic artifacts and memorobilia. 5) You do not like latter day Yankee carpetbaggers dictating how you should think or feel. 6) You like Lynyrd Skynard, The Allman Brothers, Levon Helm and Ronnie Hawkins. Who do you love?
To everyone not rationalizing the reasons are: 1)You are ignorant it is a symbol of racism 2)You are a racist
Nobody is rationalizing. The reasons I posted are valid. I agree that the Stars and Bars should not be flown over Statehouses anymore but many people who are not racists or ignorant still respect that flag.
70% do and 30% do not. I have known a few black people from the South who liked that symbol and saw it as a sign of pride in their home state. I realize that many people see it as a sign of racism and oppression however that does not mean that the others who don’t see it that way are racists or ignorant. There are also white supremicists hate mongers who parade around waving the Stars and Stripes too. I do not judge American Flag waver as ignorant racists and I do not judge those who like the Stars and Bars that way either. I coached a kid who played ball for 4 years at Ole Miss and he played with people of all races and likes the symbol as a sign of pride in his Alma Mater. I think that using discretion in where and how the symbol is used is a wise policy, but making blanket statements about all of those who own or display the symbol is not fair or accurate in my opinion.
So you would not consider its display inconsiderate, callous. or disrespectful of the feelings of most people who feel it is racist?
Sorry but life is too short to go around making sure that I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings. This whole deal is getting out of hand in my opinion. I am not a racist nor am I a hateful person. I always try to be respectful, helpful and friendly to those around me. However I am not going to act like a neurotic imbecile who goes through life like I’m walking on eggshells made of everyone else’s tender feelings.
Kiss my grits. Have one hanging on my wall. Some would say bullwhips are "racist symbols". Got pit bulls off my ass twice with the one I keep in my saddlebag of my recumbent bike. When everything is 'racist', nothing is racist.
Jeez, what drama. Everything is not ''racist''. We're talking about a flag used by racists to display their white supremacy. Not displaying it is not ''walking on eggshells''. It is simply being respectful of others if you can't understand the historical racial implications of the flag. To display the flag you would be considered racist and self centered a hole by most people. I don't know why you would want to be viewed that way, but if you're good with that so am I.
