I have been debating for a long time if I wanted to start this thread or not, but I think, and hope, it will be a really good discussion, so I have a question for people that believe that poor people that receive government assistance such as welfare are lazy bums that are leeching from others. Please answer this honestly, and feel free to respond however you would like, I have a hard skin and won't take anything you say personally.

Why haven't you done anything about them, and what are you going to do about them in the future?

If they really are as you think they are, they are never going to change their beliefs or views. They are never going to try and improve and will continue to leech off of others as long as they can. And when their situation becomes more desparate, they will resort to more violent means of getting what they want.

So why drag things out and cause large amounts of suffering? Why haven't you gathered and legally (or if that fails, illegally) dealt with the issue?

Personally, I do not think that everyone that receives government assistance are lazy good-for-nothing bums. I do not even think a large majority are. And I cannot advocate a limited number ruining the lives of everyone else that receives assistance.

I am for reforming welfare and eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse. However, I think many posters on this forum are for taking things too far the other way. They seem to take glee at the thought of cutting poor people off and watching them slowly starve to death, or to die from the elements, even when economically and ethically, it may be better just to cut them down now, sparing them from a slow lingering death and keeping them from 'leeching' any more from you.

It worries me, as I think that anyone that has such 'strong' feelings is dangerous and will cause much more harm than good to us overall.

Any way, these are my feelings. Feel free to respond as you would like, and I will respond as well. Thank you for your time.

Not sure what you're getting at with this part.

I agree with the second half of your post, though. I might also agree with the first half, but I don't know 'cause I didn't quite get it.

Guess I was not very clear. I notice many posters on this forum make many posts deriding most, if not all, poor people that receive government assistance as lazy parasites. Their 'solution' is to basically cut them off and let them starve to death. However, from a economic and moral stanpoint, I cannot see how a slow, lingering death of the poor will benefit the rich, who would have to deal with the riots, the disease, etc. So why haven't the people that deride the poor taken a more active approach in eliminating the threat to their wealth?

It's all good. Just trying to get a good debate going. We'll see what happens.

i think the welfare system we have subsidizes failure and laziness because if you don't have a job or work who cares you can get on welfare and that thinking is viral. When the option of welfare is taken away it forces you to make a living. there should be welfare but it should make for a meager living notfor dvd players and large screen tv's

as for them getting more violin it is up to u to defend your property.

I believe in keeping percentages. 60% of all earners should be middle class- the majority. And I believe 20% is rich and 20% are poor.

I believe it's the job of government to work within these confines.

When their presidential candidate says it, they believe it.

Sorry, but as the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink".

Even if those people WANT to work to improve their lives after their welfare is taken away, there are real-world problems that will help to make improvment very difficult, if not impossible. After all, learning a trade or getting a college degree both take good sums of money and time, which is something a poor person would sorely lack.

And as far as protecting your property, there are limits to that as well. A single or small group of people armed with guns will not be able to take on a large group of people, that are likely also armed with guns. Wouldn't it be better to find a solution that both sides can agree with? If not, then you better get rid of the other side before they get angry enough to start getting really violent.

I grew up in a low-income housing ghetto/project neighborhood. I even have a relative on welfare. I think probably 40% of the people are scamming the system (have other job, take a job with less hours, etc), about 30% of the people have legitimate needs, and the other 30% are people who are so institutionalized by the welfare system that even with good intentions they don't have the resources to figure out how the "outside" world works.

Ironically, I've found that it is within that 40% scamming the system that you find those people that will get an opportunity to get out and take it. It's never those with legitimate needs and those crippled by the system.

this is a common misconception. as far as I know no country in the world pays for dvd players and large screen tv's on welfare. people on welfare who have these things didnt get them from welfare. would you suggest when you are on welfare you should have these things taken away from you ? or be prevented from acquiring them however (legally) you can ? welfare isnt a problem, the only problem is two things, long-term unemployed who can work but manage not to, welfare fraud. thats it, the rest is fine and part of a civilised society, and if anything should be increased.

fair enough so do most people, but that is maybe 5 or at most 10% of them. they really dont cost your country or any country very much money in the overall scale of things. tax avoidance really does cost you a hell of a lot though.

every penny does count. which is why you should be annoyed at different groups proportionately according to how many pennies they are effectively stealing from the government.

Didn't think it looked bad at all. I'd give big money to shoot a dog in the ass from a distance and watch it attack its owner.

    I'm evil.

i am, but this thread is about those stealing from welfare or making a living off of mooching from it. if you wanna talk about other ways people steal tax dollars make a thread about it and you will see me agreeing with you on that too.
