Former lawyer who threw a Molotov cocktail at an NYPD vehicle during a police brutality protest has been sentenced to 15 months in prison

A US District Judge has sentenced a former lawyer to 15 months in prison after she made a Molotov cocktail and threw it at an empty New York Police Department vehicle during a anti-Brooklyn police brutality protest in 2020.

Urooj Rahman, 34, was sentenced on Friday by Judge Brian Cogan after pleading guilty to one charge related to the incident in October 2021, according to John Marzulli, spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Rahman was indicted in June 2020 along with Colinford Mattis, 36, on seven federal counts, including use of explosives, arson, using an explosive to commit a felony, arson conspiracy, use of a destructive device, civil disorder and possessing and making a destructive device, according to court documents.

This seems like a pretty light sentence for violent terrorism involving firebombing but I suppose it is something. I thought she would probably be sentenced to perform community service.

Over the course of the evening, Rahman and Mattis sent many group chat messages in which they, among other things: discussed the burning of Minneapolis’s Third Precinct; 2 expressed support for burning police stations and One Police Plaza, the headquarters of the NYPD; detailed acts of violence and property damage targeting the NYPD, including the use of fireworks and Molotov cocktails (improvised incendiary devices) to set fires1 ; encouraged others to engage in violence2 ; mocked reportedly injured police officers; and disparaged law enforcement generally, writing “**** 12”3 and referring to police officers as “pigs.”

 

15 months? Taking a selfie at the Capital after the police let you in will get you more than that.

3) destroying or damaging government property

all felonies with #2 being a federal felony as well as a state felony

10-15 years is the more appropriate sentence for that thug

Trying to make a coup against the US government only gets you 45 days (that's what the verdict is now on average).

Than it's obvious that 1.5 years is just over the top for just a bit of destruction of an object. Nobody got hurt.

Yet violent leftists are not prosecuted with as much fervor as non violent right wing trespassers. Democrat corruption has tainted the justice system. The left has the chance to condemn violence when blm and antifa committed it for years, they chose to support them.
