There you go. It is TV "news" that is dying. All of it. Probably because they stopped being "the news" some time ago and became "news entertainment product".

All news is entertainment, if it weren't its providers would not be so interested in ratings. There is very little real 'hard' news on a day to day basis anyway. Cable channels have to fill 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Inevitably, there will always be programming less about 'hard' news and more focused on the entertainment aspect of the 'news' such as the rich-celebrity hi-jinks, outrageous claims made by some people, political bombshells and, of course, the all time favorite...SEX. Opining about news past, present and future is also a very popular venue and one I enjoy as I can pretty much gauge the mindset of the protagonists.

The difference is that CNN is INTERNATIONAL, while Fox News and MSNBC are ONLY in the US.
CNN is pretty big all over Europe. So they don't count ONLY on the US viewers.

You are correct. As long as the ratings and the revenue stream meet expectations, Fox News will continue to program (they may fine tune of course) and report the news as they have in the past. That's how most commerical news entities operate these days regardless of what side of the political isle they are on.

FOX has lost massive numbers of viewership, not a hard thing to google.

Fact is despite losses in viewship, a phenomena experienced by every cable news network except HNN, Fox still has roughly 100 million subscribers @ .97 per month. Before a nickel of advertising they get about $1.1 in revenue.

Its gonna take a long time to die with those kinds of $$$$.

OTOH, the median age of Fox is 68!!. So, one could say with some accuracy that a % of Fox viewers are dying.

Ailes carved out a niche news/opinion market, that is pretty small compared entertainment tv. the highest rated fox show - oreilly wouldn't make the top 20 prime time network shows, and wouldn't make the top 15 cable network shows.

I was not disputing FOX news was #1 in ratings.

I was talking about the rate at which they are losing viewers as it is an alarming rate.

Because I work with members of the U.S. Military I often watched FOX news during the Invasion of Iraq as FOX News seemed to have the best coverage and as well they allowed our Soldiers to use their communications networks to get messages back home and talk with their wives, husbands, kids and parents so I have a lot of good things to say about FOX News and how they were a great help to our troops.

But lately....something just wrong has been going on.

FOX NEWS which I understand was always leaning a bit to the Right has allowed too great of a Right Wing Extremist Message to undermine it's at one time more moderate viewership and even many Moderate Republican's have stopped watching FOX as it's seems to be more about OBAMA BAD....RIGHT WING RELIGIOUS EXTREMIST GOOD....than about reporting the news.

At the current rate of viewership loss Fox will no longer be number one in 2 to 3 years.

Here is the reality of it....

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/randy-hall/2014/01/31/new-poll-shows-msnbc-ranks-low-trust-list-while-fox-news-comes-first-yet

For the past five years, the left-wing Public Policy Polling organization has asked a sample of TV viewers which news outlets they trust the most and the ones they believe the least. This year's version resulted in a low finish for MSNBC, far behind the Fox News Channel, which has topped the list ever since the annual poll got underway.

This year's numbers show that 35 percent trusted the Fox News Channel, more than any other outlet, followed by the Public Broadcasting Service at 14 percent, the Cable News Network at 10 percent, CBS at 9 percent, MSNBC and Comedy Central tied at 6 percent, and just 3 percent for NBC.

I believe their numbers are too close to make much of a difference [Fox and CNN], Fox has a wider range of entertainment and stronger personalities, so I imagine that's why they kill CNN in the ratings.

If I were a Liberal I would Boycott MSNBC, the left has some very good points to argue and MSNBC makes a mockery of any serious debate. They are so predictable and partisan they make the left look foolish. Even with race, they are constantly apologizing for things they say and have fired more staff then I can even remember. I would not want them representing me in any way, I just dont know how the left can put up with it.
    It's like a cartoon....

They should cancel the entire show and put some real talent on the air to express their views. They actually do the left more harm than good.

When we were invading Iraq...FOX was very helpful to our Boy's as they helped Soldiers communicate with loved ones at home using FOX communications equipment.

But as of late FOX and just as bad....MSNBC....are spending far to much time on promoting either the Ultra-Left or Ultra-Right wing ideologies and for a person like me who actually has to do JOBS specific to some of the things both sides are talking about....AND NEITHER FOX NOR MSNBC has any CLUE as to what is really going on...well it just irks me.

I can understand your situation, but honestly MSNBC is down to 15% actual reporting,,,,,15%.

As far as CNN goes they are only nine points higher than Fox, while they are 39 points over MSNBC,,,that's incredible. To say Fox is just as bad is just not factually correct. It would seem to me though that if your job needs less entertainment and more facts then none of the cable news networks would fit your purpose.
