Right... they want to abolish ICE, amnesty for all illegals, decriminalization of border crossings, no deportations, free healthcare and education the moment illegals cross the border...But oh, no, don't call it open borders, god forbid, that's not what the libs are for. Jeez

And you wonder why this liberal assault rifles ban is not fooling anyone with a brain after all these decades of liberal lies, deceptions, manipulations, goalpost shifting and evolving.

OK, you really think 38 states will go for that?

Why wouldn't they? FOX is just as pro-establishment as the other major networks. They play opposition theatre for the rest of the MSM. They're only conservative to the extent that they need to be to keep selling pharmaceuticals to 90 year olds.

A 1989 DOJ study found more people have been killed with .22 rimfires than all other calibers combined.

This is all true. They would subject the American populace to an Orwellian existence. I don't think many of them realize that is the path which they have set the nation on. They would argue that it isn't so, but their march towards Centralized Government Power and Control has not ceased since Woodrow Wilson.

The vast majority of handguns are 'semi-automatic weapons.' I doubt very much the support to ban those is anywhere near that high.

When did FOX become trustworthy anyway?

Do you know why they stopped, I can't understand why any law enforcement would not want to educate people.

I don't know why they stopped, it wasn't long after I graduated high school which was about 25 years ago. I've taken the hunter's safety course and the concealed carry course which was very educational for guns and laws. I'm all for teaching gun safety.

In many cases, the only way you will take guns away from people who don’t want to give them up is to send other people with guns to take them. How do you think that will work out?

I'm going to somewhat agree with this, but hear me out:

American small arms are not what's stopping the military from taking over. I know you agree with this because we both know the military has zero interest in doing anything like that, nor will it somehow do a complete 180 on its core value of supporting and defending the Constitution in our lifetimes. The kind of institutional rot that would have to creep in for a military takeover to be remotely plausible just doesn't exist. There are generations of officers who have devoted their lives to supporting and protecting the Constitution.

If our military ever does get to the point where it thinks taking over is a good idea, we're probably going to welcome it. Things would have to be TERRIBLE for our military leadership to even consider doing that. The only scenario where the military plausibly takes over in the next, -say- 50 years is if the country is ravaged by some catastrophic natural disaster or war and our civilian leadership is non-existent. And 50 years is being generous. I think it would take quite a few generations before the military ever gets to the point of overthrowing an established civilian American government. And again, if they DO do that, we're probably in terrible shape anyway, and we would all just breathe a sigh of relief.

THAT's where I can see someone wanting these kinds of guns. I get that. Things might go to Hell and you might want some firepower if there's total chaos. That's why I wouldn't make buy backs compulsory. Survivalists could keep their guns and the next generation of survivalists can buy one on the black market if they want. There's still going to be millions of those things around for a long time.

In the timeframe we're looking at, it might not have. I don't see the downside, though, in doing what I recommended: ban the manufacture of any new assault weapons, offer buy-back incentives, and maybe in 20 years it will have done some good. What possible objection do you have to that? Do you think the govt. won't stop there and will come for other guns? Do you think liberals like me, who own a bunch of guns (and there are a bazillion of us. I don't know why you guys think we're all Avocado toast-eating Pajama Boys) want to take everyone's guns? Or would tolerate that? I don't know any Democrat politician, even something like a mayor of some town, wanting to ban all guns. You guys have a ridiculously distorted view of who liberals are and what they want.

When you're dealing with lunatics, you have to speak their language. I can find you plenty of "liberal" polling that says what that Fox poll says, if you like.

I think it's a poll open to the public who can indeed skew it. Remember that's what was claimed during the election? Russian bots padding polls was one of the main claims of influencing the election.

    Thats kinda my point.

See if you can find a poll from an agency that isn't known for or likely benefits from partisan bias...

There might be some truth to that, but their polling organization has always been solid. And Fox might be pro-establishment, but that's meaningless when it comes to gun control. The Republican establishment is much more pro-gun than Trump. Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if some Republican talked about taking guns and worrying about due process later, like Trump did in that meeting with Pelosi? But because it was Trump, he wasn't impeached the next day, like any other Republican would have been.

Point is, Fox is somewhat establishment (EXCEPT THEIR HIGHEST RATED SHOW IS HOSTED BY TOTAL TRUMP LACKEY AND ASS-KISSER SEAN HANNITY), but when it comes to guns, Fox, like the GOP establishment, is still VERY pro 2nd-amendment. Any skewing going on would have been to the right.

It just occurred to me why you guys gave Trump a pass when he said: Take the guns first, go through due process second.

It's because you know he's a moron. If someone actually competent had said that, you would never let them live it down. Jesus, what is it with this guy? Could you pick a more pathetic person for your hero-worship? Do you think he cares even at all about the second amendment? Do you think he wouldn't turn on a dime on you if he thought it was in his best interest?

Not right now. But....after this year ends, with close to 260 mass shootings YTD, the time edges closer.

    I wouldn't consider a revolver a semi-automatic I thought definition included "removable magazine".

When there becomes a Federal definition of what is, or isn't, an "assault rifle", my assault rifles will be lost in a boating accident. I'm guessing I'll get to keep my Mini-14, though. Because the idiots drafting these idiotic bills won't know the difference.

Oh.........'Orwellian existence' my ass. Tell the Citizens of many Countries on this Planet that they are living Orwellian, and I'd bet they'd say that those in the US lack freedom, being caged by guns, living in fear that someone else has a gun.
