If you said the moral greatness when we were the 'America, America' of Elias Kazan I would agree, but what moral greatness is there in a nation that causes chaos all over the world, and feels it has to pit people against people and nations against nations in order to survive?

We were admired once for our humanity, but that's gone, as is our middle class. So much for our achievements. As for Vladimir Putin, he's respected world wide for his integrity. Need I say more?

We'll go now and free them all
to show them that we're standing tall
besides them, as they fight and kill
    each other.

But never think that the melee
    will make us go away.
When what it does is stir us on
    for more each passing day.-

I would quote the same to you about Putin. He’s read Ayn Rand. He’s read We the Living. He knows better.

We may need to build a lot of nuclear power plants and run most of the world on electricity.

A response I would have written myself if you hadn't beat me to it.

    Looks interesting.

Maybe we should go with nuclear power generation.

Nuclear Power as we use it now is not suitable for a number of reasons. It would need to be as 61 falcon says Nuclear Fusion. Problem is, we don't have that operating yet although there is International Work going on to make it so. There is though no guarantee that it would be ready in time. For this reason along with the decrease in the cost of renewables it makes sense to carry on with them at top speed while work goes on to make Fusion work.

The greatest threat to mankind? Based on the results of the DDT ban, I conclude that the Environmentalists are. Certainly not fracking, unless cheap energy is an economic cancer that destroys prosperity and growth.

It is truly amazing and sad that people with no qualifications like to put themselves above top scientists - a profession for which one needs a little intelligence.

University Professors and similar are experts. I am guessing you go by the fascist concept that there are no facts and no experts.

Thankfully your opinion counts for nothing. Your opinion is based on your emotions and your inability to face reality or to face your own ignorance. Not my problem.

That may be the best option but i have heard arguments that in this day and age they are cost prohibitive.

Nope. If it cannot withstand the test of reason, it’s just mass hysteria promulgated and proselytized by demagogues parading as scientists and placing facts and truths upon the whims of a majority. ( Science isn’t consensus nor majority rule, it is period)

Want science. Here: In the year 2050, the sun will rise above the Earth, and the capitalists will be smiling—and humanity will be living in the manmade paradise of achievements and wonders the capitalists made.

    Ah, the bogey-man cometh.

This is a scientific? Man’s creative genius and his marvelous inventions, which have lifted humanity from the dungeons, castles, and plagues and famines of the Dark Ages to today’s reality of jet travel and skyscrapers, and barbecued steaks on the grill, enjoyed with a glass of Makers Mark, will cause the destruction of the planet and the extinction of the human race.

Now if that’s science, what do we call delusion? The belief in Man’s greatness? The nighttime city lights of achievements we see as we fly to Miami to cruise to the royal blue Caribbean? The launch of SpaceShipOne? Well, call me delusional—and don’t waste your time to “woke” me to your nightmare—I’m enjoying life too much to give it up to “experts”.

To mock America is to mock liberty, achievement, prosperity, and life. You good with that? And to praise Putin, or Kim, or Xi Jinping, is to praise the KGB, gulags, disappearing citizens, unexplained murders of relatives, re-education camps, the silencing of free speech, the banning of independent thought, and the enshirement of tyranny as the good. You okay with that?

As to Elias Kazan, wasn't he black-listed by the Hollywood left? Didn't communist sympathizers try to prevent him from receiving a lifetime achievement award? Do you really think, whatever America's sins, he'd side with Putin and Kim? The creator of On the Waterfront, and its attack on the collective know as the rackets led by Johnny Friendly? The movie wherein the individual must choose between his own conscience and the feelings of the mob. Elias Kazan picks Lenin over Jefferson? Not if reality is real.

Sometimes one must stand against the will of the majority, no matter how much chaos is caused by one's rocking the boat. Chaos is not a sin, if the rational cause it to set what's right, right; but intentionally misrepresenting "change for the better" as a "chaotic future" to be feared, is.

There are new, much safer reactors.
Fusion, almost certainly a better choice, may not be an option. If we can't generate the power we need by solar, wind, tidal, fusion, etc., we may need to look at fission.
We need to seriously look at fission as a workable solution.

There are new reactor designs to consider. It's time, IMO, for some of the climate change deniers whose opposition to mitigation are largely based on the economic chaos we would endure if we cut fossil fuel use without a cost-effective alternative to look at nuclear power generation.

We don't have to run electricity to the whole world. Just America.

I say if a private company thinks it can make money building a nuclear plant and selling the electricity i am all for that.

How can you equate someone like Vladimir Putin who raised his country up from the massive thievery by Washington and the 'Harvard boys' during the 90's, when the Russians were going hungry, and whose Sec. of State has been running around these past years in the Middle East to undo Washington's chaos to bring peace to the Syrian people, with Kim, who is desperately trying to survive the starvation of his people by the US?

Russia's accomplishments and military strength under Putin is deliberately being diminished to deceive the people. Many Americans, unlike our 'brilliant' policy makers, are not blinded by hubris. They realize that we are sleep walking to our own destruction like pre WWI.

My reference was to the era that Kazan lived in, and how America was seen in comparison to the world he had lived in. I wasn't thinking of his personal views - whatever they are.

Causing chaos to achieve a desired 'end' is a sin, since no one should make themselves the decisive factor in what is right and what is wrong. By doing so they are raising themselves as being equal to God. I find nothing so limiting to one's intelligence than pride, because it closes one's mind to greater knowledge.

Besides, if someone has an indifference towards human life to achieve what they believe will be a better 'end result', how can they be morally and psychologically capable of being the decisive factor in anything? I don't see it.

Where nuclear power is concerned, we would no doubt be part of the process of deploying reactors around the world.

As long as they are run by private American companies.
