Howdy So, in the last few months YouTube started prompting me to log in to watch videos, comment, etc. via a web browser. Which I usually reject. Now, after Mr. Sleepy Joe became president, YouTube started to do the same on my smart TV - every few videos an offer to log in. Logging in on a TV is a pain in the butt and except to help them "profile" me, I don't see any benefits. Obviously the cookies on my TV and IP address are not enough to identify me and my interest. The stupid ads are non-stop anyway. So, I think the freedom to speak and watch other people speak their mind is gradually degrading. The way it is going, it's not before long they start demanding that I should be logged in just to watch videos. The magic word "profiling". Every sheep has got to have it's ear tag, you know. Thoughts?
Is a service offering you the ability to watch millions of videos on demand entirely free of charge restricting your free speech by throwing up an optional login prompt? Why are you trying to restrict their free speech by demanding they run their website the way you want? Obviously having users logged in to an account is beneficial to the site for various purposes but it does also offer useful functionality too, allowing you to subscribe to specific channels, save watch lists and the like. You might not want those things but it's dishonest to suggest logging in offers the user absolutely nothing. I mean, do you object to having to be logged in to post to this forum too?
Freedom necessitates adult reflection (capacity for thought and analysis) and responsibility. When those die, so does freedom.
Wow. First World Problem. The guy is whining because a provider that delivers content to him FOR FREE is asking for an optional log in. And somehow, it's the fault of President Biden. Double Wow. We see weird posts here, but this one must be up for some Raspberry award.
For years you could just watch Youtube. Whoever wanted to like a video also found the way how. Alright, I admit it was a bit dishonest. Of course it offers some functionality but 'poking' me every 3 videos to log in is annoying. Well, I don't want to log in, for god's sake, can't you remember my denial? If I want to log in, I will. I'm not a retard to be reminded every 5 minutes.
I think there is a more sinister agenda behind this. While logged in technically it's much easier to be spied and tracked. The difference between using VPN and not, for example. So, they want the sheep to enter the parlor on it's own. I think not.
I suggest that you refrain from ever watching a YouTube videoclip again. Only sheeple watch YouTube, right? Even watching while donning a tinfoil hat won't protect you; the boogeyman is after you! Beware of Big Brother! By the way, cancel your account here. You logged in to post here. The horror! I suggest that you refrain from ever going online again! Go off the grid, man! What the hell are you doing here? You cancelling your account here will have another advantage: we sheeple will enjoy a little bump in the overall quality of the posting here. So, run for the hills before Big Brother gets you; allow us sheeple to be alone here, unwisely enjoying this site and YouTube.
You mean "the bidenman"? Apples and bananas. Can't really compare the two. I'm logged in here exactly for the opposite reason - so no one can steal my identity and write on my behalf, i.e. pretend it's me . Obviously Youtube wants the same thing - to identify who's watching what. It was OK till now to watch anonymously (well, sort of) and now it's becoming a no-no. Freedom much?
I find it interesting. Ayn Rand started a 'hate government' movement. She was merely reacting to the totalitarian country she immigrated from, and her novel Atlas Shrugged, was a warning to Americans. George Orwell's 1984 painted a bleak future for us back in the 50s, and they made a movie of it, which was all about a not-to-distant-future totalitarian state. But, the funny thing is, as it has turned out, in the modern era, 'big brother' isn't the government that Rand & Orwell predicted, it's big business.
Remember, whenever some service or app on the internet is "free", you are the product, not the customer.
Sure, but then the site became increasingly larger and more complex so they needed to put some structure in. Without those changes, it would be impossible for them to support the depth and breadth of context and creators. It's essentially an entirely different service to what to was when it was initially created. Lots of things change, especially in modern technology. Something being a bit annoying is a long, long way away from "Freedom is dying" though. It also has absolutely nothing to do with who the current US President.
you can change your google profile not to collect your data, but then you just get random ads it's the cost of free stuff either ads or donations, it's how free sites survive
Logging in allows you to save videos to a library to access anytime you want. It also allows you to watch on any device. Odd you think youtube just started offering this feature after Biden was elected. Do you really believe Biden called youtube to instruct them to do this??? And you AREN'T being forced to log in. You can continue to use youtube without logging in. Or you can always not use youtube. They won't miss you.
the Trump admin and their "alternative facts" and doublespeak is the closest we have come to 1984 in our lifetimes
Perhaps they hope you stop using the service. Without your login they gain nothing by providing the service for free.
I don't mind ads. I get it it's how they get revenue. I just mind the constant prompting to log in. Apart from that, I think Youtube makes contracts with ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and they have to pay a significant sum of money to Youtube, like cable TVs pay to TV channels, for example. So it's not exactly 'free'. Yes but the constant prompting can piss the hell out of someone... untill they log in. Perhaps that's the idea? Yepp, probably. I'm just noticing the direction where things are going - downwards. We'll see.
I think it all started around when Mr. Biden "won" the election. Coincidence? First it was just in the browser, now after the inauguration - on the TV. What's next?
Logging in to allow people to take advantage of saving videos to watch later and watch them on any device is "going downwards"? And your claim that you keep getting "asked" to sign in is bogus. I'm not signed into youtube on my home computer and I was just on youtube and was not prompted to sign in. There is a "Sign In" button on the top right of the screen, but that is not the same as a "prompt". It's there to sign in if you CHOOSE. OR you can ignore it.
OK, may be it's different around the world. Thank you for letting me know how it is with you. I live in Europe and get constant prompts to log in to Youtube on my computer and recently on my TV. I don't know what's that about but don't like it.
“Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality was tacitly denied by their philosophy." Orwell
In which case, if you want to blame a leader of a country for what you think YouTube is doing then I guess you need to blame the leader of YOUR country. It’s not the fault of the leader of any country but since you seem to think that is the case you need to adjust your blame.
