I was sitting in the mall outside of Barnes & Nobles reading a new book today, "Silence", waiting on my wife raiding Dillards and J. C. Pennys. A young couple walked by (the girl maybe 15 or 16) holding hands, and she was yammering in his ear the whole way. A couple in their eighties, he on his can, holding hands, walked by, she yammering in his ear the whole way. Later at a stop light, I watched a young woman, holding her guy's hand, talking in his ear a mile minute.

    Context.

Either they learn to negotiate or they have no chance whatsoever of bettering their lot.

Which is why many women readily joined Unions in order to get the pay-rises that the men obtained. The gap nonetheless remained, and it still does. (See statistics below.)

There is no excuse for "not negotiating" (regardless of the circumstance - at home or at work). It is a fundamental right of both sexes in a society that permits it. That's the problem!

It took one helluva long stretch for, finally, some societies to recognize that a woman worked just as hard as a man and for the same level of output, but at a salary always inferior to the male. That gap has lessened over time, but it is not yet closed.

Whyzzat? Because in the US, the law stipulates that there should be no discrimination in pay. But it does not say that women should be promoted to higher-levels in the pay-scale to more positions with added responsibilities. Which is why the gap remains! (See stats below.)

This chart is dated, but it is the best I can find - from here: The unadjusted gender gap according to the "OECD 2008".

Wherever, the male/female pay gaps are still significantly different ....

    When men stop repeating it?

When men stop yelling during meetings to get their point across?

When men prompt women to display their opinion and stop badgering when their opinion is different?

It's a long-term learning process, as much as anything else is at work, and most western societies are nowhere near completing it ...

Oh lovlely.. how about you stick your rude comment where the sun don't shine. Am I talking too much for you now  Maybe this is why women won't talk to you

Btw if you can read properly you'd notice my post is complaining about mindless blather. (posted in mindless blather to make a point) Obviously unless someone spell something out for you, you find it difficult to decipher. Probably adds to your communication issues lol the inability to read between the lines

I saw read about a man who beat up his wife. I saw a guy smack his girlfriend. I read about a father who beat his son.....therefore I conclude men are abusers.(sarcasm)

I have always gotten better advice from Women, Men just do not seem, to Me, to be very good advice givers or councillors, or listeners, in My humble opinion.

Your sarcasm passes very badly as "wit". Abuse of women is nothing about which to joke.

From here (WashPo, September 8, 2014) : Nearly a third of U.S. women have experienced domestic violence (which, if you are not a client of WashPo you cannot read unless you open the article in "Opera").

Anyway, here is a quotation of the pertinent text:
To my mind, there is no more harsh condemnation of a nation than the statistic demonstrating "family violence", which indicates often (1) the lack of sufficient legal recourse to reduce its incidence and (2) insufficient schooling in the matter of mutual respect for the other person ...

More important is "Why the violence?" Because America IS a violent nation, and that
violence is imbued in its culture.

How does a nation change its cultural fascination for violence? Good question!

For an answer, start here (from the New Yorker):

America’s Culture of Violence - excerpt:
I would add another. Reduce the crude violence that sells movies.

It seems, as a nation, the American people are fascinated by violence and willing to pay to watch it. It has become a "vicarious pleasure".

Unfortunately, that violence you are viewing does not happen just in Hollywood film studios. But it could be inciting our young.

Why else would they be seeking guns to kill one another ... ?

    OP

Not that I want it to get around, but I was watching one of the shopping channels on Freeview last night - well I find them so much more thought-provoking that the BBC channels :roflol:- and there were 3 women discussing a product: they were all talking at the same time, but it wasn't a just a blip - after 20 seconds (which seemed more like 20 minutes) I had to switch channels before my brain exploded.

    Tough on you then. :)

My observations in life lead me to believe that both men and women abuse others, but I believe men do it physically more than women. LafayetteBi tried but failed in trying to do it in writing.

You should be in boxing ring.

It's logic and factual evidence that win debates.

Not sarcasm. Not ever sarcasm ... ! (And that's all you got going.)

Telling the truth that you failed in writing is the truth, even if sarcastic. I made an observation, which while out and about today I saw another eight couples walking along with the women chattering incessantly, that I think is generally replicated when anyone on the board goes out in public.

I have no trouble with mi esposa chattering while hold my hand. She is beautiful, very intelligent, and makes salient points, one of which, after seeing your comments, is that you seem upset about something. She wants to know if it was a bad relationship.

While I have seen some real violence, some deadly, I agree that most violence against women is by men. Some of the lesbian incidents I have witnessed have been horrific.

How can they be more horrific? Where do you see all these lesbian incidents? I remember going to a conference about the Holocaust and someone saying that the women guards were worse than the man. How could anyone be worse than a man who would throw a baby up in the air and catch it on the bayonet. What is really being said is that women are held to a higher standard and they look worse for doing the same thing. Men beat up women, put them in hospitals and kill them. How can A lesbian do anything worse. I lived in Greenwich Village for years and knew many gay couples and I don’t remember women being violent. Interesting that you witnessed so many

Who said "more horrific," other than you, Renee.

I said "Some of the lesbian incidents I have witnessed have been horrific." One was a girl who took her wannabreakup girl friend into a closet with a handgun, and she would not give up, and she shot dead herself and her friend.

Yeah, Renee, that is horrific. That is just one example.

Do not pretend that straights and gays don't do terrible things to their mates.
