We pay taxes, we get and keep our tax returns, why shouldn't we be requiring the occupants in the highest office of the land to 'prove they've paid their taxes? Especially to make sure there isn't any dirty foreign ties, whether its with Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Does Trump have to be on the ballot in California?

He is not going to win California, so why can’t he just say FU to California?

The IRS knows a little more about the tax code than Rachel Maddow.

The IRS has his tax returns.

If you were Trump, would you give your taxes to Elijah Cummings if you didn’t have to?

If to promote transparency within my administration, and build trust with the people I represent, yes I would hand over all returns from at least a couple decades. At the minimum. Innocent people have nothing to hide. It doesn't take a political hack to know explosive baggage is on board if Trump has worked this hard to keep his returns a secret and lied about being under audit to cover his tracks.

You are welcome to use whatever determinate you like when voting. The question here is if politicians should have the power to decide for you.

It's as simple as this. They will examine what they can of tRump's finances and there isn't anything he can do to stop it, he can only delay it in courts. It's black letter law.

You are incorrect. There are more laws on the books that you can read in a lifetime. There are no innocent people in the US; only those who have not been thoroughly investigated. Perhaps you should be investigated for having an opposing opinion? The same abuse of power you're cheering for now can be used against you.

Well, we already know from Madcows scoop of the century that Trump pays 10s of millions a year in taxes.

As for the "suspected" money laundering, we know that's not going anywhere. Trump is the most thoroughly vetted President we have ever had and came back clean. Not only has Trump been investigated, everyone hes ever had contact with has been.

Not supporting the Obama birth certificate conspiracy, but it took him over 2 year to produce a single piece of paper. Are you saying that those that felt it necessary to see were in the right? And that because he did not produce it right away that it was obvious that he had something to hide?

Just because Trump refuses to release his tax returns means nothing....and it certainly does not necessarily mean he has anything to hide. He could be refusing for the sole reason because the Democrats want it.

Investigators want a look at Trumps tax returns because they smell a rat. It's really a witch hunt, no denying it. What should scare Trump down to his Italian shoes is that the investigators are following the money. That really smells.

Yeah, the BC thing got a bit out of hand. SCOTUS should have confirmed he was eligible to run as US President prior to the elections. Once the elections were held, it really became something that should have been a non-issue. However, while certain members of Congress did express a desire to see Obama's BC, I don't remember congress abusing their power to obtain it.

Because elected congressional individuals know far more about matters relating to income tax, than the IRS itself does, correct?

Dream on, he can't even get his family vetted.

All Presidents are vetted by being elected. It should be obvious, the courts won't stop tRump being investigated by Congress and any attempt to prevent witnesses or documents being delivered can be considered obstruction of justice. I think it's time for Congress (House) to stand up for itself and let the executive know who has the power to investigate the executive. Enough of the nonsense with trying to accommodate witnesses, they show up, testify, or else. If Congress says send us the documents, you send them, or else. Just set 'or else' the maximum you can set it and let the chips fall as they may. No House of Representatives should put up with a President defying it's will and preventing it doing it's job according to the Constitution.

Irrelevant. The precedent will live long after Trump

You are incorrect. You moved it from politicians determining who you can and cannot vote for, to you applying for a job. Here's a direct question to you:

Should politicians get to make decisions for you when it comes to voting?

And yet every modern (and many pre-modern) President have done just that.

Just because The House demands something, that does not mean they automatically have a right to those items. They are not an investigative branch and can not act for investigation reasons only. They need a Legislative purpose. While they do have oversight authority, they still need a legislative purpose. The House is just 1/2 of one branch. They are not the final authority.

Indeed they do and that's why the law was written to allow oversight of the Secretary of the Treasury and IRS in black letter law. The checks and balances within the government are not subject to partisan interpretation. Believe it or not, Congress does have the authority to look at financial records and conclude someone is a crook.

Actually, it's people like me who lived near tRump long before he entered politics who thought he was a crook. How many people living around the northeast corridor don't think Don "the Mensa" tRump is a crook and has been a crook as long as they've known him by name?

Not very.... Probably move about the same speed as the no-brainer suit by Congress to get his taxes based on an existing and previously used law...

    Don't scare everybody, Gary..

Congress just wants to look at Trumps taxes to make sure he's getting all the deductions he's entitled to....

It's a new service provided under the title H&R Blockhead

What incentive could there possibly be for someone looking into tRump's finances to stop doing it? If you don't want Congressional oversight, don't become President.
