These days we're seeing a pretty big spike in genetic determinism, the belief that certain aspects of a person's life are completely controlled by their genes.

On the far left, you have progressives who believe that homosexuality and transgenderism are genetically determined, and that no matter what a person does, they can't do anything about being gay or transgender, and the only option for these people is to act on it and start a sex change operation or whatever.

On the far right, you have racial determinists who believe that the inequalities between the countries come from certain races being genetically more intelligent than others.

The interesting thing is that the far left completely condemn far right genetic determinism as "racist bigotry", while being genetic determinists themselves for LGBT folks. While on the other hand, the far right mocks far left genetic determinism on LGBT folks, and instead believe that being gay is a choice, that gays can turn back straight if they want, that trannies can stop being trannies if they want, etc.

I'm pretty sure both views are self-contradictory. If you accept the belief that genetics can completely rule a person's actions in life, then how can you oppose the other side of the political spectrum that does the exact same thing?

It seems to me like both sides are pretty quick to claim "muh genetics" when it fits them, and to claim it's environment when it doesn't. Both sides also seem completely dead set on their beliefs, despite this inconsistency.

    So which one is it?

I don't think that being queer in any way is necessarily genetic, but I also know damn well that if it was a choice nobody would bother with the hassle and I know that it doesn't matter because people should be able to do whatever they want with a consenting adult.
