We've seen the video. I watched it several times and each time I grew more and more angry. Not because Floyd was dead. That was bad enough. It was the officer's attitude. He is killing a man. Strangling the life out of him. While floyd dies the officer is chatting casually with onlookers. Not even bothering to look at the man he is killing. Depraved Indifference: Depraved indifference is a state of mind (mens rea) of one showing no sense of moral concern for others, and acting wantonly, without regard for the lives of others, and unquestionably blameworthy. This is what angers me. That this officer, charged with protecting the public, including Floyd, acted as if this man's life had no meaning. No value. This was not a mistake. This was not on purpose. This just not caring if his victim lived or died. This is what should outrage everyone.
What outrages me is a bunch of thugs thinking it is a good idea to burn down other people's businesses and private property, and using this man's death as an excuse to steal **** that doesn't belong to them. I'm all for throwing the book at the cop if he is found guilty. It sure as hell doesn't justify all that destruction.
Perhaps if you'd show outrage over the murder... This murder happened several days ago. None of the officers was arrested. None were charged till this morning. Black people have seen this play many times. Unarmed Black man killed by police Despite clear evidence to the contrary the police claim of resisting is believed Officers go free Nothing changes. This video along with witness statements was available the day of the incident. Rather than asking why those Black people were acting "that way" why not ask why the cop acted THAT way? Why not ask why the officers were not arrested that day? I don't defend rioters. I never defend violence when there is another way. But being angry over the riot without being angrier over the cause is the cause.
So burning down neighborhood stores is such a wonderful way to demonstrate your problem. Frankly manslaughter is no where near good enough. But that in no way justified stealing and arson. On top of which what sort of effing moron shits in his own front yard. Now they have to add a bus trip to the cost of there medicine. What happened in Minneapolis is neither rational nor justifiable. It's straight up mob think and the only thing that ever stops a mob is the smell of their own blood. People besides George Floyd are going to die over this and it's a damn shame. Worse we've got leftist idiots on TV egging it on.
Good Lord everybody including almost all LEO'S was on the side of the murdered man now no one knows who he is. Because a bunch of stupid effing twerps **** in their own damn house like a bunch of demented two year olds.
Never said it. Claiming I did is dishonest. But then what is to be expected from someone who is angry that some windows got broke but celebrates the murder of yet another unarmed black man by police.
Your last sentence there. I keep hearing that around here. Who is going on TV and egging on the rioters?
One man's death does not justify many people having their property and livelihood attacked. Those innocent people who were looted and had there business and property destroyed had nothing to do with the police or the victim. I'm all for throwing the book at the cops, and it pisses me off too. That you can justify this type of mob violence and destruction over this I find absurd and disgusting, and is exactly what is wrong with the liberal perspective. how is breaking into stores and stealing televisions going to bring justice to anybody?
Really? One man's death isn't enough? How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and How about the one before that? and ...ad infinitum How many black men and women get murdered by police and people playing police till it's too many? I justify no violence. Never have never will. But to expect people to continue to lie down and take being murdered by those who are supposed to protect them is beyond unreasonable. It is foolish and it is, in itself, a call to violence.
Should be easy to cite some examples then. Edit: Your original statement is that it was being egged on. Backpedaling now?
You say this man being charged is not enough, yet you say you do not justify the violence. What exactly DO you want? No police? The vast majority are out there doing a great job. The few scumbags are the ones that get all the attention. It sounds very much like you are justifying the violence with a wink and a nod while you say "oh no, I don't justify this at all!". So, what would be acceptable to you?
The cops deal with the same stupid crap everyday. After a while they stop viewing the perps as humans and more like animals. After that, complete indifference is what you get. I would bet that cop has pulled the same move hundreds of times and nothing happened. All it takes is once. He should go to jail for manslaughter and rightfully so. The resulting riots and unrest seem to be par for the course. I mean really, did anyone expect anything else?
Of course, the officer did not want the man to die, because that would and is causing consequences. So he did care, in terms of his own best interests, but he was careless and used unnecessary roughness- and he will suffer the consequences. Now- how much do you think the protestors cared about the property they torched? Do you think they searched the places first to make sure they weren't killing anyone? You know damn well they didn't, because THEY didn't care either- they were looking for an excuse, and they behaved even worse than the police they claimed to be protesting. More like a lynch mob than a legitimate protest. That should anger you more.
The few scumbags? This was 4 officers in a single response. Two days later 3 more officers arrested a Black reporter who was reporting on their actions. The Few SCUMBAGS? Virtually every major PD in the US has had these incidents. Not all end in death. Few end up being taped. THE FEW SCUMBAGS That is denial on a galactic scale! What do I want? Change. Change in the way police are trained. Change in the ways police operate. BUT How about we start with this... Being Black is not probable cause. Maybe if we start there we can begin working on the rest. https://twitter.com/i/status/1266497556319789058
Cared? Did you watch the video? The man was dying, pleading for help and the officer chatted casually with witnesses. The officer did not care whether or not the man died. Root cause. Fix the root cause and you fix the child symptoms.
I didn't say the cop cared about floyd, I said he had a self-interest not to cause that death. It was careless and stupid, but not a choice to kill- just over-reaction and indifference. On the other hand, do you think the people setting fire to privately owned business just didn't realize what they were doing? Do you think for a moment that they gave a rats ass about the harm and risk to others, including potentially killing anyone who may have been inside? The problem is that people think someone else's criminal mistake authorizes their intentional criminal actions. Floyd was being arrested on the charge of passing counterfeit bills, there was a cause for the arrest. However, there was no cause for the arson, except some pea-brain got into a mob mode and intentionally committed crimes. I don't forgive the officer. I damn sure don't forgive the rioters.
