I happen to agree that Saudi Arabia's continued support and aggressive prostelization of Wahabbism is fueling today's massive clustermuck.
It is beyond my understanding why they are not called on it. They smile and take western money and indulge in western delights all the while empowering wahabbi preachers to expound hatred, jihad, violent sectarianism and fear, alongside medieval legal and social rights and mores aimed directly at western democratic social values.

Can't see the House of Saud transforming itself anytime soon and any revolt would have to include the military. Awfully long odds on that.

 

The best way to neuter the power of the Saudis is through energy independence. If the world can figure out a way to get away from fossil fuels economically then the Saudis can drown in their own oil and they can work on their suntans on their giant sandy beach.

 

At the moment a massive entourage of Saudis is officially travelling around Southeast Asia. Moderate Muslims in Indonesia and Malaysia are literally freaking out. They don't want Saudi influenced 'religous schools' to mushroom across their countries. Saudis are going to stay around the region for over a month. What are they up to? No good for sure.
