German Christmas Tradition: St. Barbara’s Blossoming Twigs If you cut Saint-Barbara's-twigs today, they will be in bloom around Christmas http://www.pension-sprachschule.de/...stmas-tradition-st-barbaras-blossoming-twigs/
I have now got 5 small Saint Barbara's twiggies in a vase here. Would anyone else like to join in the game?
I'm not interested in cutting twigs for the holidays, but one German Christmas tradition I miss is Gluehwein. It's not common in the US but you can find it occasionally and it makes a nice Christmas treat. I also miss the Christmas markets, but I think the tradition has been modified now to include the traditional suicide bomber. Ah, that's when you know it's Christmas.
What kind of tree did you cut them from? We grow Cameilias that bloom during the Holidays: Christmas Camellias – Plant Them Now and Brighten Your Outdoors at Christmas https://terrabellagardencenter.com/...‘,a welcome sight when the weather turns cold. Our white and pink camellias are already in bloom and my favorites, the red Yuletides, will be blooming in time for Christmas. We live in Zone 7, so they might grow in your area.
Here it is in German: https://www.baldur-garten.de/produk...szeit/Weihnachts-Kamelie+Yuletide/detail.html I will try to get it here.
Good luck! They're my favorite Camellia, and once they get big you might be able to bring some cuttings inside around Christmas. We live in the northern range of their growing zone, so we have ours planted in a sheltered location on the south side of our property.
Today is Saint Barbara's Day. So I have cut three twigs off my forsythia and will put them into a vase in the living room in the hope that they will be in bloom around Christmas.
Here is some info about those twigs: https://www.gardena.com/int/garden-...re cut on,chestnuts also produce good results.
This morning I have taken the twigs out of the deep freeze and put them into a vase. Now they are in this vase on the dining table.
Hello Lindis. Seasons Greetings - I hope you're enjoying Advent. Unfortunately, I forgot all about St. Barbara's Day and its tradition, but maybe I'll give it a try this year. Hopefully, I won't be too late. What I do know is that the Christmas Carol Camellia I bought my wife last year will be blooming soon - hopefully it will be flowering along with our other camellias on Christmas. They're a beautiful plant...
It's my personal favorite - I may have to buy my wife another one - and along with our other Christmas Camellias they're the only plants in bloom around Christmas.
