Germany rejects commitment to spend 2 % of GDP on defense

Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said it was "quite unrealistic" to believe Germany would spend 2% of its economic output on the military.

The US should invoke Article 13 of the North Atlantic Treaty immediately. NATO is one foreign entanglement we can live without.

 

An appropriate U.S. response may be to reduce its spending on NATO by an amount equal to the amount other NATO nations fail to pay.

 

We don't spend that much 'on NATO'. We spend much, much more on maintaining forces, and the means to deploy them, that can be used to support NATO, but can also be used for other tasks as well. Cutting those forces would be detrimental to our own interests, so that would not be an 'appropriate U.S. response'. Being in NATO is no longer in our national interests, all it does is cost us a lot of money and bring us into conflict with the Russians. It's time to consign it to the history books.

Germany has spent more than 2% GNP in the past on its military, and it can do it again.

They can easily put 21 Billion they spend on refugees by kicking them out and putting that money to use in the military.

For that they can contribute about 21 divisions of lnfantry---which would be quite a help. And if a few thousand of their men die in combat---it's no skin off our noses!

Hey I did 2 years protecting West Germany while serving in the US Army. So I can talk.

America has 300 million people, Germany 80 million.

America has about 2,100,000 active and reserve military troops.

Germany has only about 325,000 active and reserve military troops.

According to some sources, there is an agreement that not only Germany but the rest of the NATO countries are supposed to be spending 2% of their GDP on NATO by 2020, but I haven't read that agreement so don't know if that's the case or not, but in any case we do indeed need to quit subsidizing European defense at our own, and toss the UN out of New York as well; it too is nothing but a social club for the worst dictators and criminal syndicates on the planet, and not any kind of benefit for anybody but assorted terrorist gangs like HAMAs and the PLO scum.

Most of the European countries are going to turn into Islamo-nazi crap holes in the near future anyway, and we don't need to funding them any more; they would have to train fifth columnist vermin to meet many of their military needs and we would be truly stupid to keep subsidizing our future enemies. The EU is going to disintegrate in a couple of decades anyway. they have enough already to stop Russia; if they lack to will to do so and lack the will to shut down being overrun by fake 'refugees' from Islamo-Land, NATO isn't going to be able to do it for them.
