Reminder, the US is the only country which invoked Article 5 of NATO.
Its NATO partners did not hesitate and helped, with blood, soldiers, equipment and billions in cost.

What the White House Clown did, infront of the Monument of 911, at the NATO Headquarters, was a disgrace of the NATO soldiers who died, got injured, crippled for live and their families suffering.
He still continues doing so. I am a NATO/German former soldier and he insulted me, too.

I consider that state of affairs as very sad. We should be friends, allies and respect each other and recognize the blood we have shed, together and honor it, with the greatest respect.

Despite what some Germans think, we still ARE friends and allies.
We just happened to have a weird president. He breaks all norms. His election was directed at our internal dirty politics, not someone outside.

Germans are not stupid - The realize that the advent of nukes changed the game - so there is no point in having a really big military - because nuclear superpowers do not attack each other - and if they do - wasting a bunch of money on conventional hardware is not going to help you.

I am sorry to interrupt your chest beating. The US and its allied partners were not in West Germany to defend West Germany. They were there as part of a strategy to stop the Soviet Union, which had become after the war the enemy. It was part of a world wide strategy.
I am West German and I very much appreciate and am grateful, that this allowed me to grow up and live in freedom. But those were occupational forces, with special rights and powers and that was well understood in West Germany.

You know that the uranium in Chernobyl came from my state? The east german Wismut combinat mined the Uranium near Ronneburg. It was flawed though since it was not refined to high percentage. It even contained traces of Plutonium. Erich Mielke knew it but thought the risk is ok. They did not tell the soviets.

The russkies noted something was ****ed up when they took block 4 online. Reactor 4 went unstable when operating on low power.

All went good for few years until Dyatlov made that security test and put the reactor into critical levels. Then it went out of control. The botched nuclear fuel went critical and combined with the RBMK design flaws blew the entire thing up.

Gorbachew once said that Chernobyl was the final nail in the USSR coffin. The starting point of collapse.

I´m proud that the very core of that collapse came from my state.
