This is an interesting but wholly unsurprising artlcle.

The phase out of nuclear power had forced Germany to burn more coal.
Or buy nuclear power from other countries.

    Correct.

I have worked with the Commercial Nuclear Industry for over a decade. I maintain about 75% of the U.S. operators as customers. I buy the bar tab for them each you at the conference... don't worry, they don't drink much, so it's not too expensive.

Germany's energy policy is anti-Global Warming. They will also have to rely more heavily on fossil fuels, OR risk mass death by freezing on extra cold years. I know that sounds dramatic, but without the nuclear, they must go to natural gas. Wind, Solar, etc. are not reliable or robust enough power sources to deal with cold periods. At this time, if you do not support Nuclear Power, then you have no business being on the Global Warming side of the debate.

There is hope for all sides. Small Modular Reactors (SMR's) are coming. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is backing this research, but looking for more government support, which is nuts, because this is the exact right way to go. SMR's will burn the waste from our current nuclear fleet with enough fuel for about 150 years right now. Also, there is no meltdown risks and we can start eliminating power lines that span across forests and start fires. SMR's can be easily localized.

Someone could earn a Ph.D documenting the unintended consequences of do-gooder liberalism.

    Liberalism is not energy policy.

Under contemporary liberal/leftist thought, any “non-renewable” energy is bad and needs to be shut down. That includes oil, coal, nuclear, etc.

Actually the 2005 Energy Policy Act was done by the Republicans and it included incentives for development of renewable energy sources. So you are just throwing **** trying to make it stick...Coal is a dying energy source since it is cost prohibitive for operational costs compared to natural gas. The farmers are the ones that lobbied to use grain ethanol to boost prices. So again you are just throwing crap to see if it sticks without knowing that a political philosophy is not an energy policy, unless you are claiming that Bush was a liberal which the Republicans follow liberal philosophy since they believe in several of the tenets of the philosophy like, liberty, equality under the law and private property. But why am I explaining anything to someone like you who knows everything yet nothing at all about political science or the history of US energy policy.

The average Republican says we should use the least expensive form of energy.

The average Democrat hates coal, oil, nuclear, etc.

So, essentially, both the Left and Right are hysterical fools leading the masses of asses to the cliff of the lemmings. I Agree.

Germany is run by hard-core DDR commies who are completely insane.
Anything Germany does now is a joke.
Merkel and her united socialist party CSUCDUSPDFDPLinksGreens (there is no difference between German 'parties' except AFD) are hardly working on de-industrialization and 'diversity' of the country.
If you have IQ-20, a Muslim, non-white, without any skill and will refuse to work you are welcome in Merkel's Insane 'state'.
7m+ have been already entered the country and enjoy all kind of benefits Merkel's welfare state.
