"Around half of the drivers surveyed said driving was their only job, the report found, and two-thirds said it was their main income source. Almost half were working more than 35 hours a week and more than half were working at least five days a week. The average driver had been on the job for more than a year. "

Though to be fair, I've seen a few other studies which focus primarily on the idea the gig economy is extra work, which in turn begs another question why are people working more than they have to? But that's another topic for another thread. All I have to do is establish someone out there is doing this as their primary job.

Just in case you missed it, here is Novembers job numbers again for you.

Economy added booming 266,000 jobs in November and the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%

    Snippet:
The unemployment rate fell from 3.6% to 3.5%, matching a 50-year low, the Labor Department said Friday.

I don't know any of them, so pretty hard to tell that to people I don't know.

As for why that matters, why are you relying on these arguments to make your point?

What arguments? The arguments that real people are losing their livelihoods right now as we speak due to a dumb liberal law? And lots more people are going to be suffering the same fate because of the dumb liberal law?

Do these arguments not seem germane to you?

In my field, most project last more than a year and you need to be trained to know our systems, so hiring people make more sense than relying on people who can leave at the drop of a hat. This is the reason why freelancers and consultant are only hired for ponctual needs. Many of our present employee are ex consultants.

The primary reason is California has the 2nd worst cost of living in the Continental US so people are forced to have second and third jobs to merely try and sustain a life. Freelancing or subcontracting provides people that need to work a second job, flexibility to revolve around life itself and not mandated to a fixed schedule. It's why many are become prime drivers as it also pays well. But not in California now.

Oh it does. I just don't care. Threatening someone by saying if you don't work for me, then you will be out on the streets is evidence of a bad system that needs to change. Forcing someone to be vulnerable demeans who that person is, and demeans the person who needs the other person to be vulnerable. And sometimes that toxic relationship needs to be broken apart.

    Exactly.

Skill and value is always the best way to secure yourself a good gig.

If you'd rather be and unskilled drone and expect that the government is going to hand you the same sort of sweet gig, then good luck with that.

California also has the largest economy in the US. So strange is it then that people need to work so many jobs to keep that economy up. Are you making my argument for me?

Isn't that exactly what Vox did? How did this law prevent that?

to be honest, the ship is already sinking at this point, too lat to fix it, the question now is when does it crash and how long will it suck before it can be rebuilt

don't think were too big, Russia went under, we can too

corporatism is effecting the entire world, we are not the only ones going down this time and that may help extend the crash out some

Not sure how I am making your argument when it clearly shows that having the largest economy but but yet has the second highest cost of living is a fundamental flaw of state politics.

My argument is that it's an unjust system, and the law is right because it breaks up this unjust system. By saying Californians need supplement income to survive, yet the economy is literally the 5th largest in the world, there is a sign that the economy is an unjust one. You make my argument for me.

Yeah but it didn’t just just break up the system, it broke the system.

The net result is a huge loss of income for many California citizens. How is that a fix?

They lost that income which in turn means they have to do something else to survive. You really seemed fixed on the income part. Why?

I can't access the article, but does this impact the day laborers at Home Depot?

Yup and I need it to survive. I am fiscally dependent on the paycheck I receive. But that doesn't really explain why it matters to you? Also why did you try to relate it to me?

Maybe you are right that I just made your argument for you. Maybe it's a product of their democrat policies?

That's why I'm fixated on the income part, because, as you know, income is important, and people need it to survive.

    There, asked and answered.
