    Really Newton?

It is not your job to correct the guy asking you the question? Do you have no problem spreading untruths? Hoping to let rhetoric sway a few votes your way?

Certainly one can expect that Newt would correct the person speaking to you, or at least set the record straight. McCain seemed to have no problem doing it.

Is this demonstrative as to how low Newt will sink to in a desperate bid to save his floundering campaign? I am disappointed, though not at all surprised. In what appears to be a time where blatant lies about people is the norm in politics, Newt shows he is very, very typical.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...e-to-respond-to-voter-calling-obama-a-muslim/

LAKE CHARLES, La.– Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, asked to explain Wednesday why he did not correct a voter during a question and answer session who called President Obama a Muslim, said that it’s not his job to police what voters say.

While asking a question about the economy, Bob Nolan of Lake Charles, La., told Gingrich that he believes President Obama is a Muslim and a student of Saul Alinsky.

“And I believe that it’s his policy to bring this country to its knees and ruin the United States of America. Your comment?” Nolan said.

One man in the audience shouted “I believe that too,” with a few audible claps in the room.

Gingrich responded by saying that he believes the president prefers power to prosperity and policies that centralize the government, but also affirmed to Nolan that he believed Obama is radical.

“If the price of that is that we’re poorer and we have fewer jobs and that we have less energy, that’s fine with him. It’s a price he’ll pay,” Gingrich said. “I agree with you about Alinsky. I think he’s driven by a radicalism to remake America and he doesn’t frankly care what level of pain it costs the rest of us.”

In a notable moment from the 2008 election, John McCain defended then-candidate Obama when several people in the crowd for a rally called Obama an “Arab” and “terrorist.”

“No, ma’am. He’s a decent family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that’s what this campaign’s all about. He’s not, thank you,” McCain said.

In an appearance with “On the Record with Gretta Van Susteren,” Gingrich was asked why he didn’t correct the man.

“You know, that is such total baloney. I was asked by a reporter immediately afterwards. I said of course I accept that he’s a Christian. The guy didn’t ask me a question. The guy got up and stated his opinion. I don’t have an obligation to go around and correct every single voter about every single topic. I also didn’t agree with him,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich said that he accepts Obama is a Christian, but a Christian whose policies “apologize to Muslim extremists while they’re killing Americans at the same time that he’s waging war against the Catholic Church and against every right-to-life institution in this country.”

Since campaigning in Florida, Gingrich began hitting Obama in his stump speech for “attacking” the Catholic church over policies from the Affordable Health Care Act that require religious institutions to cover birth control in insurance policies. Gingrich has recently said that Gingrich sympathizes with Muslims in the Middle East.

“Why does he want to pump oil in Saudi Arabia, which he called for last week, and he’s against pumping oil in Louisiana? You have to wonder, why does he want the jobs in Saudi Arabia and not the jobs in Louisiana? I just think it’s a strange presidency. And you don’t have to attack his — whatever his personal religious beliefs are to attack his behavior,” Gingrich said.

I love the double standard. Not only does Gingrich have to say Obama is a Chrisitan but he has to be quick. Of course, the guy who was quick in pointing out Obama was lying got pilloried.

When you realize that absolutely nothintg you do with satsify the nitwits, you tend to shrug your shoulders and move on.

Well, if Gingrich had any chance in Hades, this would matter. It's just another reflection of a large part of the Republican electorate and says more about that group of people than any candidate.

Obama was 'quite religious in Islam'

Widely distributed reports have noted in January 1968, Obama was registered as a Muslim at Jakarta’s Roman Catholic Franciscus Assisi Primary School under the name Barry Soetoro. He was listed as an Indonesian citizen whose stepfather, listed on school documents as “L Soetoro Ma,” worked for the topography department of the Indonesian Army.

Catholic schools in Indonesia routinely accept non-Catholic students, but exempt them from studying religion. Obama’s school documents, though, wrongly list him as being Indonesian.

After attending the Assisi Primary School, Obama was enrolled – also as a Muslim, according to documents – in the Besuki Primary School, a public school in Jakarta.

The Loatze blog run by an American expatriate in Southeast Asia who visited the Besuki school, noted, “All Indonesian students are required to study religion at school and a young ‘Barry Soetoro’ being a Muslim would have been required to study Islam daily in school. He would have been taught to read and write Arabic, to recite his prayers properly, to read and recite from the Quran and to study the laws of Islam.”

Indeed, the Israel Insider online magazine points out in Obama’s autobiography, “Dreams From My Father,” he acknowledges studying the Quran and describes the public school as “a Muslim school.”

“In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Quranic studies,” wrote Obama.

The Indonesian media have been flooded with accounts of Obama’s childhood Islamic studies, some describing him as a religious Muslim .

Speaking to the country’s Kaltim Post, Tine Hahiyary, who was principal of Obama’s school while he was enrolled there, said she recalls he studied the Quran in Arabic.

“At that time, I was not Barry’s teacher but he is still in my memory” claimed Tine, who is 80 years old. The Kaltim Post says Obama’s teacher, named Hendri, died.

“I remember that he studied ‘mengaji (recitation of the Quran),” Tine said, according to an English translation by Loatze.

Mengaji, or the act of reading the Quran with its correct Arabic punctuation, is usually taught to more religious pupils and is not known as a secular study.

Also, Loatze documented the Indonesian daily Banjarmasin Post caught up with Rony Amir, an Obama classmate and Muslim, who describe Obama as “previously quite religious in Islam.”

“We previously often asked him to the prayer room close to the house. If he was wearing a sarong (waist fabric worn for religious or casual occasions) he looked funny,” Amir said.

The Los Angeles Times, which sent a reporter to Jakarta, quoted Zulfin Adi, who identified himself as among Obama’s closest childhood friends, stating the presidential candidate prayed in a mosque, something Obama’s campaign claimed he never did.

“We prayed but not really seriously, just following actions done by older people in the mosque. But as kids, we loved to meet our friends and went to the mosque together and played,” said Adi.

Obama’s official campaign site has a page titled “Obama has never been a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.” The page states, “Obama never prayed in a mosque. He has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ.”

But the campaign changed its tune when it issued a slightly different statement to the Times stating Obama “has never been a practicing Muslim.”

An article last month by the Chicago Tribune seems to dispute Adi’s statements to the L.A. Times. The Tribune catches up with Obama’s declared childhood friend, who now describes himself as only knowing Obama for a few months in 1970 when his family moved to the neighborhood. Adi said he was unsure about his recollections of Obama

But the Tribune found Obama did attend mosque.

“Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia,” states the Tribune article.

It quotes the presidential candidate’s former neighbors and 3rd grade teacher recalling Obama “occasionally followed his stepfather to the mosque for Friday prayers.”

Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, notes the Tribune article – cited by liberal blogs as refuting claims Obama is Muslim – actually implies Obama was an irregularly practicing Muslim and twice confirms Obama attended mosque services.

In a free-ranging interview with the New York Times, Obama described the Muslim call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

The Times’ Nicholos Kristof wrote Obama recited, “with a first-class [Arabic] accent,” the opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer.

Israel Insider’s Reuven Koret notes the first few lines state:

“Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet… “

Some attention also has been paid to Obama’s paternal side of the family. His father, described in some reports as an atheist, polygamist and alcoholic, was buried in Kenya as a Muslim. Obama Sr., also named Barack Obama, had three sons with another woman who reportedly all are Muslim.

Obama’s brother Roy is described as a practicing Muslim.

It is 2012, not 1968. This is the US, not Indonesia.

It seems even Obama is confused about this issue.

    NYTimes: Obama and the Bigots

To his credit, Mr. Obama has spoken respectfully of Islam (he told me last year, on the record, that the Muslim call to prayer is “one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset”). If he were to go further — “and so what if I were Muslim?” — many Americans would see that as confirmation that he is a Sunni terrorist agent of Al Qaeda who is part of a 9/11 backup plan: If you can’t reach the White House with a hijacked plane, then storm the Oval Office through the ballot box.

This is a case where Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain should take the initiative and denounce the fear-mongering about Mr. Obama as hate speech. The wink-wink references to “Barack Hussein Obama” and lies about his going to a madrassa are the religious equivalent of racial slurs, and Mr. McCain and Mrs. Clinton should denounce them in the strongest terms. This is their chance to show leadership.

When Mrs. Clinton was asked in a television interview a week ago whether Mr. Obama is a Muslim, she denied it firmly — but then added, most unfortunately, “as far as I know.”

He is correct on this one. If the voter isn't someone who is stumping for the Gingrich camp, then it isn't Newts job to correct his questions.

Caertainly noone could expect more from newt on this one than we expect from Obama with the DeNiro "joke".

Holy tempest in a teapot. So, it's not enough to say the right thing, he has to say the right thing while the stopwatch at DU.com is still ticking?

Why would someone who isn't a Muslim, care if they serve pork in prison?
    :hmm:
Obama Administration Bans All Pork Products From Prison Menus
October 9, 2015 - The federal Bureau of Prisons, a subdivision of President Barack Obama's Justice Department, has banished all pork products from the menus in all federal prisons, according to a report in the Washington Post.

There is NO pork product served to a inmate that resembled that slice of pork roast!

The average ENTIRE COST for food for a prison inmate is $2.37

Its hard to even imagine what kind of "pork product" that is even reaches the money spent on the slaves from the table scraps in a cruel master in the 1850s!

This does reflect a group.... the progs. You spend the past year saying, "What have you racists got against Muslims?" but when one of your own is called a Muslim, you start honking like a flock of angry geese.
