This girl was walking home from school when a group of four other girls came up to her, demanded she hand over her valuables, and when she told them she didn't have any they beat her up into semi-consciousness. In the middle of the attack, the group heard a police car siren and went running off, but not before one of them left a gun with the girl who was lying semi-conscious on the ground.

When the girl woke up, she was in a hospital. She was unable to talk because of the pain. Her parents told her they were disowning her, and did not visit her again. After the short hospital stay she was sent to juvenile detention for 6 months. Her parents never visited her during that time, nor did they post bail for their daughter.

Finally, the charges against her were dropped, after one of the other girls who was apprehended admitted she was the one who left the gun with the girl they had beat up.

(When she heard the police car, apparently she panicked and didn't want to get caught with the gun, so she had left it with the victim)

I have a feeling from the video this happened at a Black school.

These short animated videos are compiled from actual real-life stories.

I think you are extremely ignorant about what goes on in high-crime inner city neighborhoods.

Yes, this story would be implausible in a middle class neighborhood.

Some might wonder why I mentioned this likely took place at a Black school. That is a critical detail that helps explain why the parents automatically assumed their child had gotten herself involved in trouble.
Parents in these areas are always concerned that their children could get involved in trouble.

Thus, while it may not make much sense to a middle class white person why the parents would automatically jump to the conclusion that their daughter was guilty, and want to "disown" her, it is at least much more understandable from the perspective of a Black or Hispanic person living in these areas. From a sociologic standpoint, the matter of race thus becomes very relevant to the context behind this story.

To an ignorant white person who has never lived outside their middle class neighborhood, of course this story doesn't seem to make much sense or be very plausible, but for many Blacks and Hispanics in the inner city, these type of unfortunate things are just part of normal life.

well I never lived in a high crime inner city neighborhood - but the story still seems fake, I have never heard of anyone disowning their family for being found beat up with a gun - and hard to believe the police would charge the child without more evidence then that

The video claims that the parents disowned her because she killed her twin sister while in the womb...

yeah, the story is weird, maybe the parents have mental issues, only way I could see it as even possibly being true - there are crazy people in the world

but I can not see why cops would convict her of this with no real evidence when she was the one put in the hospital and there was no shooting

That is why the fact that this may probably have taken place at a Black school may have relevance to the context of the story.

I'm sure the girl had never gotten in trouble before.

But in that community, in that area, it wasn't so surprising the parents would automatically assume that their child had indeed gotten herself into trouble and done something illegal, because parents in those areas know it's very common for children to get themselves in trouble, and there are a lot of bad influences, and easy for children to hang out with the wrong crowd.

When we realize the context and setting of this story, a lot of seemingly inexplicable elements to the story start clicking into place and making some more sense.

For example, police car that just happened to be around that area? Not very probable in a middle class suburban neighborhood.

The fact that the parents thought their child had gotten herself in trouble with the law was the final breaking point that led to them disowning her.

They probably also had assumed she had gotten into a fight (also common at those schools), so didn't feel very sympathetic towards her about her being in the hospital. Of course she couldn't talk at the time and tell them what had happened.
