Very good, the first topic for a sermon will be love.

We have one judge so I guess he, or she, will have to do.

Would you like to give the first sermon?

I'd be happy to. I think there should be a word limit, however. Because it is a forum, and attention span for reading text is not great, I think 200 words should be the limit.

    EXAMPLE OF APPROX. 200 WORDS:

    Agreed?

I object to word limits simply because some subjects require more to explain. I think the object should be brevity to the best of ones ability, but that should be something that our only judge should take into consideration, don't you think?

Nope, I don't agree because a "sermon" has to fit in a specific time limit of a service, so the idea is to get the most bang for your buck. If you can't say it in 200 words, you're saying too much, IMHO.

As an atheist, I actually find this quite an amusing idea and would very much interested in creating a sermon. I agree with felicity it should be 200 words, or of some kind of limit. There also needs to be a deadline. You might want to make another thread as well. Also I think it should be one entry per person. Perhaps you could get the moderators to give some rep or something to the winner. As long as there is no flame - ie the sermon is within forum rules, I think anything related to the chosen topic (in this case 'the nature of love', or whatever) should be allowed.

ps. please set this thing up after this week because I'd really like to take part but am snowed under with work at the moment.

    Again, great idea.

Ok, it seems as though I'm overruled on the number of words. However, as a compromise how about 250 words?

I also agree that deadlines need to be made. What should the deadline be?

LOL Yeah 250 is good. It needs to be small enough that you can compare and read a lot of responses, but long enough so that people can express themselves.

2 or 3 weeks? The religion forum isnt visited the most, so you need to give it some time.

Ok, so the topic will be love, the word limit will be 250 words, and the start time will be this Saturday on 9/9/11 and the end time will be two weeks after that date. Also, we will have one judge to pick a winner since no one else appears to be interested. I will start a new thread on Saturday specifically for sermons and sermons ONLY. See everyone then.

There is more than one kind of love, even lust can be included in the desires of the flesh.
