Oh no, I am quite aware of people acting like complete (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) bags. I am quite aware when they are taking something and deliberately spinning it into the absurd. And I am aware of too angry young men who have no idea how to debate, communicate, disagree, or even reference properly. This may shock you, but so is the rest of the world. Really, who do you think is the one that is fooled?
BS - you follow the law. You do what your managers tell you what to do. The idea that you don't follow orders is silliness itself. Or are you on your contextual shift chaneg again where you want us all to think that atheists are raw bear meat eating individualists who live in caves and wear animal skins from beasts they have killed with with sharpened plastic forks? I was an atheist Kmisho - I know that isn't true Sure it does, there is no need for God to defeat the devil? Sin? There is no need for God to demonstrate the power of his wisdom? Yet you guys ask for proof? And when given it, like always, you find petulant reasons to reject it. Its not our fault you NEED other people to be screwed up to make yourself feel better by comparison. And when you find yourself deliberately twisting things, just so you can compare yourself to the spun BS in a positive manner? Again, how is that OUR fault? God's fault? Insistant negativeity is its own reward.
God would have to take a few steps in my direction for me to be willing to kill my son by his dictate. Abraham is the father of monotheism, and he proved it by willingly killing his son to appease the voices in his head. Don't know how well this translates to today with modern thought. This is a difficult thread because it strikes at the heart of a one true God... it takes a lot of faith to fufill- and faith is hard to come about these days. The news is full of murder/suicides but we don't worship them as righteous acts. Honestly, I would offer myself to a singular God than my son. This makes me tainted because I can't approach this topic, being one with a sole son. Abraham was a mighty and worthy man not only for himself but for the books by crossing a line to make a point for one God in a world full of gods.
This is true. You add another dimension to the problem. If "God" tells you to kill your son, or the world will end and every living soul will burn in hell or live a life of enslavement or whatever, then perhaps the answer would change. I lived with someone who heard voices and was paranoid (schizopressive was the diagnosis); she knew what was going on yet she was often influenced to do very odd and disturbing things. This is why I commented on the pill taking not being so easy. Sometimes, it just makes things worse. Back to the original point, however, if I were to know that it is God (and I am an atheist for all intents and purposes), I would refuse because that would not be the request of a an all-merciful, all-loving God, and therefore not the God of creation but some unhappy deity insisting upon dominion.
So your idea of a loving God is one who wraps in swaddling clothes and waits on you hand and foot, never asks anything of you, and never asks you to do anything fo others. Yep, you don't get Christianity - at all. Once again, this was asked of Abraham because his faith was rock solid - it would never be asked of one like you - but its nice to see you highlight the perception of mental illness in others based on their faith alone - which no mental helath expert has ever used as a basis of diagnosis BTW.
