1. The pastors doing this kind of thing are behaving like idiots, just like the people going out for non essential shopping.

2. I have seen faith heal families broken by death ,disease , and addiction.

3. You've never seen anything done with the human soul. Cause you can't quite see them.

4. Science is nothing more than people studying and occasionally figuring out hoe God does things.

God however is not a genie in a bottle and prayer is much more than asking for what you want.

In times of great threat to our lives, this has always brought people to a church! And that means greater revenue for the church ! But suddenly their good fortune cannot be used to get more tithes ! And this is really pissing the pastors off ! Their golden opportunity is being drstroyed because its a deadly more contagious virus and holding big services is being prohibited.

And these churches are missing out on getting more money that fear generates.

I heard one southern preacher say the govt cant stop them from saving the sinners ! Of course most larger churches have preaching and saving souls on the radio and tv. But those listeners are not as apt to give money. To max that out is best done when the pastor can do it in pperson. That is why humans still sell in person .

These mega churches are seeing their big chance to make big money from exploiting the ffear evaporating before their eyes.

 

Human institutions are always ready to profit from the fears and misery of others. That never changes, and is Standard Fare in any geopolitical situation.

The 'Wake up call', from the Creator, cannot be hijacked by humans, though charlatans try, and may even succeed in deceiving a few hapless dupes.

But to be obsessed with other people's reactions, motivations, or shenanigans, and miss the Call from the Creator Himself, is a tragedy beyond words.

 

Therein lies the rub..

The answer to that Question may have eternal and infinite consequence. To mock it, or prattle on with parroted Indoctrination talking points, is the height of folly.

Your soul is real. It may be in a philosophical stupor, or be starved for nourishment, but it longs to be reconnected to its Source. Heed the call! Wake up from the Indoctrinated stupor you find yourself in! Listen to the 'voice' from the Creator, as He calls you to be reconciled to Him!

'Science' is only an explanation of what God has already done. It will not restore you to your Maker, or reconcile you to Him. It is useful as a tool for discovery, and many a human has found God peering through a microscope or a telescope. But in whatever way He calls you, LISTEN!! The Call may not last indefinitely. Seek Him while He calls.. do not delay.

 

I don't completely disagree except with maybe some of your adjectives. Like most, or the lack of adjectives describing the numbers of money grubbing pastors

 

While I am agnostic I know there is societal value in peopke meeting to voice their common belief in living a moral principled life. And given we evolved as a herd and isolation isnt good for our mental health. Even the commonalty of religion had an evolutionary role.

Growing up in a church, a tiny one didnt expose me to the money grubbers.

I found these bastards in tv evangelists and pastors of mega churches. People like Copeland and Baker. Swaggert and and Olsteen .

The south is full of these men getting rich from religion or trying to do so. I have known some of these men personally. Most teach that god wants them and you to be rich. But you need to give them money so god can return it a thousand fold !!

Gotta be an extra hot hell for these money grubbing con men bastards .

 

I grew up not going to church, but in my 20s atrended and was an active member and leader in a relatively large ( for the community) church that also had a radio ministry.

The folks you mentioned are generally held in moderate disdain by most evangelicals who value biblical teaching.

Though a lot of what they say may be accurate, what they teach is BS and is referred to as the prosperity gospel.

I guess my only point is most largish churches are not like the people you mentioned. But to the extent that a church is as you describe. You are right.

 

I am agnostic that hopes we contain a permanence that the body gives an abode to while it dwells in this dimension of energy, matter , , and space time . The mind does not create consciousness or the soul but receives it as our tvs a signal and processes it. Consciousness is the fundamental.

But the catch is we have no way to prove this abstraction, this belief is true or false by using the scientific method. So such things become what the field of philosophy concerns itself with . And you see lots of word soup involved and thinking about thinking.

So I dont know if there is a soul or if there is god, an infinite creator whose abode is outside the perceived universe . Logically untouchable by what our brain created. ..science.

But I hope there is for I am fond of purpose , goodness , love and order. And meaningful meaning.

A hopeful agnostic the only kind of minds that are honest and have no time to waste on the delusion that man can know the answer to these very old questions. No one knows the truth. But they confuse knowing with opinion. Your opinion by delusion becomes a known truth beginning the vicious circle where the serpent consumes itself without knowing what it is doing

God & science are actually never contestants. Science exists to study, experiment with, & understand God's works. True science always seeks to understand, & understanding is never a threat to God. In reverse, God is never a threat to science, since God produced everything science studies for understanding. God is always ahead of science, regardless of what point science is currently at in its understanding. There's always more to study & to understand. God does not threaten science, & science does not threaten God. But some extremist humans in the service of both, threaten each other.

You're right bad people have often used religion as an exuse to do horrible things. Nothing to do with God.

 

How has that worked out the last 2,000 years?

 

Extraordinarily well, one might call it miraculous, and be right in doing so.

Imagine how bad the world would be if no one ever prayed??

Before you imagine that the good things that religous people do are the result of prayer and obedience to God.

Now, look through your history books to learn what religious people have done.
Salvation Army?
St Judes Children's hospital ?
Who started most of the private universities?
The list is nearly endless..

You might not be happy with the state of the world, but it could be a lot worse. Most of the things you take for granted exsist becauae someone somewhere prayed and someone was obedient to tge prompting of God.
