The internet is a great device for those that think the people are just oiks. See, for example, the money that went on targeted social media political manipulation. However, the problem for the establishment is that they're always playing catch-up. There are always different ways of spreading information and by-passing mass media outlets. Attacks on freedom of expression will just generate further innovative mechanisms to bypass it. Hallelujah!

I like the part showing how many requests have been made by the US and Israeli governments for specific censorship.

If they have nothing to hide, why are they hiding so much?

Times change, more people use the internet then watch television so probably yes.

I would say propaganda doesn't work but history tells us that it is very effective because the world is filled with many stupid people who believe it.

It only works if you are susceptible to it however. Kind of like being hypnotized.

I'm for a certain level of censorship, You should not be able to plan your terrorism acts on a forum, that's just outrageous, as long as they can tolerate some bitching and wailing then by all means... curb the hate

I think the Christchurch guy "Voldemort" because it's he who must not be named, did in fact make comments online but nobody flagged it.... I'm not 100% sure because I've been good and did what they asked... not read the manifesto, not name him etc.

People have already been arrested and sentenced to prison based on little more than internet data as evidence.
They've been interpreting various laws to make certain types of internet data a crime.

The slippery slope has already arrived and the foot is standing on the precipice.

Every government has things to hide, from the efficacy of their weapons systems to diplomatic talks currently under way.

What a good little sheep, you wont know then that the NZ government has basically copied verbatim what he asked them to do: ban guns, censor news, wear hijabs, banish the moderate right from social media to push them to fringes, etc. Accelerationism.

Good little citizen you. Keep those ear muffs on.

Yes I'm a good little citizen... just read my posts.

I'm against providing terrorists a space online and make no apologies for it, we do exactly the same with muslim extremists, therefore in the interest of being consistent we should do the same with right wing extremism

I can only wish the internet would go away. It caused many to lose jobs. Allows anyone to say anything whether truthful or not. And allows for terrorists and criminals to connect and scheme.
For all the good which IMO is in far less than than the bad, it isn't worth it. When created iut should have been defined as to what it could and could not be used for. IMO Facebook, Twitter and the like aren't working. And now, the Government us using social media postxs to identify people gaming the system for monetary benefits. Soon they will have access to all our health information aling with basically all information about us. We should not allow this.

Venezuela is a great example of what they want. Continuation of Iraq: A mass media which largely refuses to question the government's narrative. It's always surprised me how folk, convinced in their individualism, simply adopt group think.

Social media becomes particularly troublesome. Best try and disrupt it. Fake news, trolling etc etc etc, belittle to maintain the orthodox narrative. Feeble stuff really, but anything to up the support for regulation....

Yes I know--those things and much more.

Sometimes, like in the case of U.S. v. Reynolds 345US1 from 1953, they want things kept secret so badly that they perjure themselves before the SCOTUS.

Do you think this is a good thing? I understand it is reality, but is it a good thing in a country claiming to have a government of the people and by the people?

I know life was better without the internet.

But the internet isn't going away. Ever.

It's always a case by case basis. Some deals can't be made in public. Some things you'd rather potential enemies didn't know.

The trouble is being able to recognize it when you see it. The truth may well be out there but finding it in the midst of all the babble, sturm und drang and pure bs can be difficult at best.
