GOP Senator James Lankford Apologizes to Black Constituents for Opposing Election Results (msn.com)

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) has issued an apology to some of his Black constituents in Tulsa, Oklahoma for his intention to object to some Electoral College results on January 6.

Lankford had planned to object to President-elect Joe Biden's win but changed his mind following the riot at the Capitol that left five people dead. He sent a letter to "My friends in North Tulsa" on Thursday.

The letter said the senator's actions "caused a firestorm of suspicion among many of my friends, particularly in Black communities around the state. I was completely blindsided, but I also found a blind spot."

"What I did not realize was all of the national conversation about states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, was seen as casting doubt on the validity of votes coming out of predominantly Black communities like Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Detroit," Lankford's letter went on.

Rest of apology at link. Worth reading.

An honorable move, and though he's not completely distancing himself from the voter fraud lie, his apology is sincere, in my opinion.

This is how unity happens, and I hope the GOP is paying attention.

Is he up for re-election in 2022?

    He is.

I said at the time the Senators were lining up behind Seditionist Hawley and Seditionist Cruz that Lankford's name stood out to me, as I always had him pegged as somebody who could be a leader in a post-Trump Republican party. Then he changed his stance after the riots and now this....

Personally, I think he should be apologizing to all Americans, not just black Oklahomans, but a journey of 1,000 apologies begins with a single apology...

Nonetheless, he'll still be on Double Secret probation (with all Republican Senators except Mitt) for his vote during Impeachment 1.....

So.. in your mind "unity" is bending the knee to abusive power? Really? This sounds more like what happens in communist countries..

It seems unlikely that this kind of hyperbole will take the national conversation anywhere useful. explain again how following the law in your mind is sedition.

A politician expressing "deep regret" for his "blindness to the perception" of others that a politician wants to disenfranchise blacks from the electoral system. Also, did he even do anything except entertain the claims of voter fraud, rather than immediately discrediting them? Maybe he has a twisted electoral/anti-black mindset or "implicit bias", meaning that he doesn't even know what he believes and just stumbles upon his beliefs as they are brought to his attention...

Ever since PBS stopped having the GOP crazies on as guests, they have been talking to “moderates” such as Lankford. He comes off as reasonable yet repeatedly falls back to the conspiratorial mindset that so characterizes the Trump era. I’m sure he is intelligent enough to know that the Trump lost the election, fair and square. That he would object to the results of the election, in an effort to overturn it shows you where he comes from. His apology, I’m sure, is just a result of the backlash. It is not like a leopard suddenly changes its spots. Watch as the Biden presidency progresses. Lankford will be there, lockstep with the rest of the Republican radicals.

LOL at National Conversation... I've seen the alt-rights ideas of National Conversation, and I'll pass....

Challenging enough states to overturn an election with no legitimate basis for that challenge is attempted sedition. The fact that the riot essentially prevented the full slate of challenges to occur changes nothing...

The fact that it wasn't going to go anywhere also changes nothing.

You keep making your opinion a state of fact. It's a failing for sure on your part. Again, the law was followed, you might not like the way the law works, and yet, following the law in your mind is sedition?

"conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch."

Sure..... the fact that the conduct is allowed by law doesn't change that....

How about all Trump voters bend over and grab the ankles, apologize to Democrats, and pledge never to question their wisdom again? Would that make things right?

Politics is humanity at its worst but not standing up for your words and beliefs is politics at its worst.

It's abusive to count the votes of black voters?
Well it's always nice when the hoods come off and we get to see the people under them.

Election fraud happened, there are hundreds of criminal convictions to prove it; but it takes years to try and persecute and convict, so the true scope of Democrats fraud in this election will not be known for years. Were there enough Democrats fraud to swing the election, we may never know.

Yes, it is abusive to count the votes of black or any other voters twice. Or trice.

    Wow, HUNDREDS !

Just because you make up stuff doesn't mean it deserves any attention or even has any basis in reality. Now, if you had EVIDENCE, you might, at least, get some debate going. Better still, if you denounced INSURRECTION, people might start taking you seriously.

Apologized to his Black constituents, eh? That should garner him 1 more vote on top of the 1 he might have got from that constituency, LOL. Will the GOP ever learn that the Dems own the black vote body and soul? They need to make a major move for the Latino vote, the Dems don't totally own it yet.

I'm afraid I'm not buying any of these folks who, only after the Jan 6 event at the Capitol, have 'seen the light'. There was plenty of light to be seen for the past four years, but I guess they had sunglasses on.

WOw.... straight to the race card. How can you prove your assertion? And are you really willing to hide behind racism to support election fraud?

So... suddenly, for you, actually living in the law is "oppressive"? that's rich.

And here Trump supporters were applauding Trump’s increase in black voters - and you seem to be claiming that the black votes for Trump were fraudulent.

If the evidence you want, evidence you shall get.

    https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud/search?combine=&state=All&year=2020&case_type=All&fraud_type=All

Keep in mind that this election season was extraordinary and as I said, the extend of Democratic fraud will not be known for years.
