GOP senator warns Republicans will lose future elections if party continues to 'idolize' Trump

After Trump's speech at CPAC yesterday, it is clear that the branding of the Republican party is struggling to find its feet again. Instead of focusing on a plan for the future, Trump chose to repeat the same rhetoric he's been shouting from the rooftops since election day. He droned on with the same allegations of election fraud, how horrible Biden is and how he's been persecuted by the media, the Democrats and disloyal members of his own party.

I think Cassidy is sincerely trying to save the party from itself however disloyal people want to paint him.

Is it even possible for Trump to put aside his hard feelings and get behind another Republican candidate for the overall good of the party? Or, is this the hill he wants to die on?

    What do you think?

Trump is now history, or haven't you heard? In the two years leading up to the 2022 midterms (literally GEOLOGIC time in American politics) he'll wield as much power over the Republicans as you or I.

Good for Sen Cassidy. Nice to see some republicans displaying political acumen.

Biden will give the Republicans the House and Senate in 2022, and the White House in 2024.

I dunno. Did you see the golden idol they built for him at CPAC? It's creepy weird.

I don't think he will. He's only loyal to himself and everyone else can be thrown under the bus at Trump's discretion. There's a reason Trump has switch parties 7 times along with his political ideology. Trump has lost the independent vote, Independents dislike him to put it mildly, continuing to be the party of Trump will doom the GOP. They're still the smaller of the two major parties which simply means they must win the independent vote or lose in the general election.

But this is a Republican Party problem. It will be interesting to see how they handle it. I think some Republicans are finally realizing this fact. The GOP is between a rock and a hard place on this. Get rid of Trump in order to attract independents without alienating Trump supporters which could mean Trump supporters won't turn out to vote for non-Trump candidates or continue to support Trump and keep his supporters, but lose independents. Either way is sort of a losing proposition.

But the republican party brought this on themselves when they nominated Trump back in 2016. So they get no sympathy from me. Independents don't like either party, they give the Democratic party a 32% favorable, 56% unfavorable, but compared to the Republican Party at 19% favorable, 69% unfavorable, that makes the Democratic Party favorable's sky high.

    https://docs.cdn.yougov.com/imdk8zumh5/econTabReport.pdf

Looking at those figures, guess which party is more likely to win the independent vote? The larger of the two major parties, the democrats or the smaller of the two major parties, the party of Trump, the republicans?

The midterms will be a disaster for the Democrats. Trump will have no affect on the midterms. The 2020 census was bad for Democrats and historically the midterms should favor Republicans. Plus Biden and the Democrats has already disappointed many voters.

The 2024 presidential election is another story if Trump decides to run again. I honestly don't think he can win another election nor should he run.

The Golden Trump is bad if true. Nobody should worship a golden idol.

Do you believe that Trump will be able to accept the loss and truly stand behind the candidates put forth from his party?

First of all, you don't win by being a Democrat-lite republican. You have to understand that the plight of the working class unites all races. Whoever is running things* is governing by looking in the rear view mirror, going backward, with the aim of destroying everything Trump touched, good or bad, thus they are not looking at the country's needs going forward

What I believe is really going on is the democrats know they will lose control in 2022, so they are jamming their entire socialist wish list on the public at the front end and they really don't give a rip what anyone thinks about the problems they are creating.

*my guess is Chief of Staff Ron Klein

I read about that this morning. Also, one of the artists is Mexican. He said that he wasn't given credit because he's Mexican.

Cool. It has about the same amount of animation as Biden, and Biden is supposedly a live person.

I think that Cassidy is a GOPe pile of excrement that needs to be primaried.

I am no longer voting for any GOPe people. IF I even bother to vote anymore, it will only be for MAGA candidates.

    That's what I think.

When Democrats are praising particular "Republicans", you know damn well that they are part of the GOPe, and part of the Uniparty, and part of the PROBLEM.

The RNC's chosen GOPe darlings can go F themselves... I'm not going to vote for any of them. I'm only voting for MAGA candidates from now on, IF I even bother to vote anymore.

Not a fan of Cassidy but he is mainly right. Republicans need to tap into his populism and his appeal for America first but they need to move away from him personally.

Trump should host a radio talk show and fill the void for Rush. That way he can stay in the game and give his opinions, bash the dems and Biden. Have some fun.

Many middle of the road Americans just wanted the noise to go away. And it has to some extant. While Trump was not as responsible for the noise as those who hate him. The riots and so forth things have calmed down and I don't think a return to Trump especially at his age is the way to go.

Americans are realizing that while there is less noise we have a village idiot in power now. Who cares that in this era of social media and everybody on the internet we have a king who is insulated from us.
