Hilarious watching buffoons like Al Franken pretending that they know anything, and then watch Gorsuch calmly cut them to ribbons... :roflol:

Gorsuch frustrates Democrats at confirmation hearing

"WASHINGTON — During a 10-hour grilling from senators Tuesday, Judge Neil Gorsuch offered few hints as to his judicial philosophy, frustrating the Judiciary Committee’s Democrats in a polished and calm performance.

Gorsuch — sprinkling his answers to the committee’s questions with “gosh” and “golly” and “goodness” — deftly dodged Democratic senators’ attempts to
pin him down on abortion, the scope of the Second Amendment and the Citizens United campaign finance decision. He said it would be “grossly improper” for a judge to offer a preview of how he would rule in future cases.

The 49-year-old Colorado judge also repeatedly insisted he would maintain his independence from President Trump and said no one in the administration had asked him to promise to rule a certain way on cases once he got to the court.

I would have walked out the door,” Gorsuch said when asked if Trump had asked him to help overturn Roe v. Wade, the case that ruled that women have the right to get an abortion. “It’s not what judges do.”

"...Gorsuch defended himself from charges by Democrats that he was being evasive, pointing out that previous Supreme Court nominees from both parties followed the same standard of not commenting on political controversies or cases they may later rule on."

I think he would be great on the Supreme Court, sounded very decorous, well spoken, quite intelligent, non-ideological, nothing controversial. I support his appointment.

I loved watching former dilettante and party boy Sheldon Whitehouse-one of the bigger blowhards and morons in the senate, try to get faux upset with a guy who really was at Harvard on his own merit. I went to college with Sheldon and was on a college team with him-and he pretty much was a rich yuppie who was there due to his family. Now he's a big left wing blow hard and as phony as a three dollar bill. why is it that those with the least intellect are the ones who want to try to outsmart a guy who is clearly a legal genius?

Obviously it's their least intellect, Sheldon probably doesn't realize the fool he is.

The whole confirmation process for Supreme Court justices intrigues me; I think the nominees should be questioned about their views on Supreme Court decisions, but the questions need to be much more intelligent. Instead of legislators trying to express easily understandable popular concerns, the nominees should be questioned be the most brilliant constitutionalists in the legislature about particularly delicate and ambiguous points of prior landmark cases, chosen for the guidance the answers given may offer in forecasting a candidate's course from the highest bench.

The dems will never accept a judge who follows the constitution. They want to violate the constitution, or at least when it comes to American citizens.

I feel so sorry that you went to college with that blowhard. When I was in college, I also ran into some of those types. But as youth, one hopes as they mature, they really do mature. Democrats lack maturity.

This reminds me of when Rush was cheerleading for David Souter during his confirmation hearings, and saying he'd be the vote that would overturn Roe.

Franken was making an arse out of himself DEMANDING Gorsuch give predisposed rulings on issues and then when Gorsuch would put him in his place trying to scramble on to his next attack.

he was a senior when I was a freshman. we were on a team-I was the hot shot freshman and he was a second stringer on the team that had won the nationals the year before and was (my first year) the last guy on the varsity. Not a bad guy back then but when we were supposed to attend a big tournament in NH, he didn't go because he complained to the coach of the team that the hotel was not up to his "standards"

Gorsuch may well be a fine pick for the SCOTUS. That is not the issue here. Merrick Garland was also an excellent qualified choice by Obama last year. The issue is whether the Democrats are going to refuse to confirm him like the unprecedented actions the GOP took last year regarding Merrick. Now, with the entire Trump administration under an FBI probe regarding conspiring with foreign entities to rig the election, I wouldn't be surprised if the Dems pull the same crap that McConnell pulled last year. Can you blame them? If Clinton had won and she was being investigated for rigging the election, the Republicans would be screaming "lock her up" and not one Republucan would vote to confirm her choice. You are right. It is funny to watch...lol

Agreed, they should ask positions on a couple of cases involving intestate commerce, general welfare clause, 14th, and tenth. This would give someone a decent indication of where the judge leaned or where his principle was based.

They want to translate the Constitution as opposed to take the original intent which is laid out in numerous documents by those that wrote it.

The real funny thing is, Trump would not have won without this pick. This supreme court seat made the POTUS election a referendum on the direction of the court. The people choose their preferred direction.

Democrats tend to think the world revolves around them. Many are extremely narcissistic.
This in a way condemns me as a youth since I was a Democrat but I was curious.

My then motive in politics was entirely due to my own family. I was not really a rebel so when I grew up learning how evil republicans are, I trusted my family a lot. They were wrong. I changed away from them by 1980 and some of the family thought it sucked I voted republican.

I knew some rich kids growing up but never asked their politics. Fred S for instance started a corporation that made all the store shelving for Safeway Stores and he got wealthy. I am not talking Mitt Romney kind of rich or Trump kind, but plenty of money so things like cars and homes was no problem. Fred paid cash for upscale houses.
But he was great to me. I worked on his sons car and Fred never held me up for payment. Fred and I had a chance to talk a few times and I think of him as one of my mentors when I was young. His son was irresponsible in my view though at the time he was only 19. Last time I talked To Roger in 1970 he was still married to the gal I knew and was doing very well with commercial real estate in Nevada. He seemed very mature to me at that point.
