Mexico's northern border is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. This is precisely because of the choices made by citizens of the USA.

In my ideal vision of the world, we citizens would stop being a market for the criminal activities which have led to the humanitarian crisis that our southern neighbors endure. Our failure to control our hedonistic desires has transformed the formerly sleepy border area into a quasi-militarized zone which is almost totally under the control of multinational criminal organizations.

As we are unwilling to curb our own appetites, we must demand that our government work to minimize the effects of our irresponsibility on our poorer neighbors. A secured border would be one compassionate action that we can afford to those who suffer because of us.

The cartels are known to hang bodies off of freeway overpasses. I would be for a little bit of nation building in Mexico. Make a mobile wall and just keep pushing it down south.

 

Drone strikes against the cartels facilities, homes and families would put an end to them quickly. These guys won’t do what they do unless they can live like Kings. It’s not religious. It’s not fanaticism. It’s just plain ol greed. No point in selling drugs if you have to hide and live in a cave, since as soon as you pop your head up there’s a laser sight on it or everything around you explodes.

 

Legalize the drugs they sell. End their monopoly, stifle their cashflow. I dont like folks killing themselves with heroin, but none of the local pot shops here in WA have ever left a severed head on someones doorstep or roasted a human to death on a spit.

 

I agree. The cartels are terrorists and Mexico should do what the Israelis used to do and knock down the houses of terrorists. The upside to all this is that once these people cross our border they become meek, mild hardworking bus boys and lettuce pickers.

It’s so damn simple. Make selling drugs more dangerous to them and everyone around them then whatever money they make and you end the drug “war”. well no not really, you take ModernPaladin's suggestion on the legalisation of drugs to deal with the drug issue and privatise the oil and gasoline industry, then hire private contractors (from outside country) to protect the resources...

 

One of the (many) erosive effects of illegal immigration is it allows the US to fund band aids in countries like Mexico.

Instead of the people there improving things, they come here and send money home. No incentive to improve mexico.

 

Sad fact: It costs $5-6thousand to get smuggled into the USA. The aliens are given contacts, who connect them with a job. The aliens are allowed, by the cartels, to send money home. They are also allowed to keep money to live on. But... they must also pay down that debt to the cartel... or...

I find it curious that murder seems like such a popular option among some factions in PF when it comes to anything involving the border or anything south of it.
