We have a Camp Chef flat top griddle that has a grill option but can't find a cover/lid for it. I don't really want to get another grill just for that feature but it looks like I may have to do just that. I've heard a lot of good things about the Big Green Egg grill, but it's kinda spendy. What do y'all like to use for the occasional grill/smoker?
second-hand teardrop shaped generic charcoal grill. i only ever grill steaks or bratwursts (because when i try to grill something else, I end up wishing I had grilled steaks or bratwursts). Bratwursts I poke a bunch of holes in and simmer in dark beer for a good hour before grilling. Steaks I usually marinate in dijon mustard and worscheshecerstire sauce. But ever since I bought a barebones B&D toaster oven, I havn't touched the grill. I figure the charcoal grilled tastes about 10% better, but the toaster oven is about 200% more convenient both in prep, cooking time and cleanup. And I guess I'm just lazy when it comes to cooking...
Give 'em a call and see if they can help you with the cover/lid option you want, https://www.campchef.com/contacts I like the Weber Smokey Joe for grilling, $35. Get a chimney starter and leave the dang lighter fluid on the shelf! And get ya some wood chips too of course. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/weber®-smokey-joe®-14-charcoal-grill For smoking you might consider a full size Weber using the snake charcoal method is likely about as cheap as it's gonna get. https://perthbbqschool.com/blog/snake-method
You might consider getting one of these, https://www.pamperedchef.com/shop/Bakeware/Stoneware/Toaster+Oven+Pan/1448 I have a couple of the larger sizes that I use when I don't wanna deal with the insane summer heat and humidity to properly grill stuff. Broil steaks and chicken with 'em. Something about the stoneware seem to make the broiling better. Bonus is that it is not recommended to use soap to clean it. Just a good hot water rinse and the nylon/plastic scraper. Boneless chicken thighs are one of my go to's....
1. Did you check the company's website? Sometimes they will sell individual parts. 2. A frugal chance - try Goodwill or other thrift stores (I found an irregular sized lid ($2) to replace one I broke). 3. I love the Smokey Mountain by Weber (but I honestly think any one would work if you are the typical home user).
Yeah I checked their product line and they don't make a lid for the Flat Top Grill. I Didn't really want to spend the money for another grill to address that one shortcoming, but aside from a couple cools ideas in this thread, it looks like I may have to buy another grill. Will check out the Smokey Mountain, thanks.
