In the U.S. Eminent Domain requires the person who's property is being taken to be paid a fair value for the property, it cannot just be taken by the government.
If you care about kids so much when are you going to demand that we ban all cars? Nobody needs a fully automatic, 4 wheel drive murder machine with a high capacity gas tank. We need common sense car reform.
I posted in relation to NZ not the US, and what I think it's best for a general society not the US society. I doubt that NZ has a constitutional right to bear arms, the same as the US has. We are both expressing opinions based on our cultural prejudices. By my standards, certain type of weapons should not be in the hands of the citizens. Because they are not more useful and a danger to others. You think it doesn't matter because it's a right. Just like the right to free expression, that right has boundaries, gun rights should have too. It makes sense to me, so we will disagree on this topic.
12% of Americans have an accurate understanding of gun violence in America. It's not the anti gun people either.
Well we have a fundamental disagreement. I would say that no government has the right to unreasonably restrict gun ownership. The right does not come from the government, it is a right that is inherent in each person, governments take rights away they do not grant them. Our constitution acknowledges rights, it does not create them. But you see your standard about what kinds of guns people should have is based on ignorance not any kind of facts. Therefore your opinion is invalid. Thats like me saying that when the skies are clear it appears red. Therefore we shouldn't say the sky is blue.
For entertainment. Interestingly full auto firearms are illegal without a federal government license. Doesn't seem to keep them out of the hands of people who don't respect the laws. You want criminals to pay taxes on their guns? That's rich. We have no referenda in federal government. A few states have them but not the federal government.
That's why such laws, in the US, violate the Constitution. In the US, a tax laid upon the exercise of a right with the intent to discourage the exercise of said right violates the constitution. In the US, the Constitution protects the right to own and use all bearable arms - those in common use for lawful purposes. This includes magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles. So?
I need semi automatic weapons. Let me know. If that isn’t a rhetorical question let me know and I’ll educate you.
Your perception of need has no bearing on what firearms I have a right to own and use. Interesting. Perhaps a similar tax on abortion - $5000 on the first, $10000 on the second - etc.
I have my guns, i will continue to have my guns. How anyone feels about that is of no concern to me. This is America and we Americans dont seek the approving opinions of foreigners to exercise our American rights.
It's not the United States. It's New Zealand. But yes, in the US one is a dozen times more likely to be either beaten or stabbed to death, than killed by someone using an assault type weapon.
