The national guard may have been dispatched by George Bush at the time, but they were under the control of the local leadership of the city of New Orleans. It was the local leadership that ordered the confiscation of firearms, not George Bush.

Factually incorrect. The only way to truly put an end to random killings and massacres, is if the world experiences a globally depopulating event that wipes out the entire human species. Every other species of the animal kingdom manages to go their entire existence without engaging in genocidal practices against one another for no other reason than simply having something to kill.

So long as there is human life, there will always be killings. There is simply no other way around the matter. If it was not firearms, it would be some other development that was developed simply to facilitate more killings.

The restrictions on fully-automatic firearms are not motivated by the notion of public safety. They serve no other purpose than tax revenue, as the transfer from one legal owner to another requires a tax stamp issued by the ATF that costs two hundred dollars. Such is why having an unregistered fully-automatic firearm is a crime that is punished so severely, as it denies government that tax. And as has been witnessed with the individual Eric Garner, government will not hesitate to use deadly force in response to being cheated out of its taxes.

I have no issue with that - you want a weapon of war like a machine gun or assault rifle, should be harder to obtain then a normal handgun or hunting riffle

if I want to go fishing I have to get a fishing license

And yet the restrictions in place exist only for the purpose of taxation, not public safety. Therefore they are not justified in this matter.

    Is fishing a constitutional right?

It never has. In fact, on average, strict gun control tends to lessen public safety.

Actually many credible studies have show that increased gun ownership decreases crime. Even the CDC is their last comprehensive study found that defensive use of firearms far exceeded criminal offensive use of firearms and reduced crime.

Because criminals can buy every kind of weapon without background checks regardless of any conceivable law.

"Progressive" pols should stop harassing law abiding citizens - you know - voters.

Gun control is = adding an automatic 10 years to the sentence for a felony. Make sure it is consecutive and not concurrent.

There is no such thing as an assault weapon. Educate yourself.

Is it punishing good drivers to be forced to get insurance or make Drunk driving illegal?
Is it punishment that a sportscar costs more than a Corolla?

When the only firearms that are present, are the ones held by the criminal element, how can more legally owned firearms in the hands of the law abiding make the situation any worse than it presently is?

Operation of a motor vehicle on a public right of way is not a constitutional right. It is a privilege granted by government.

Indeed it is not. Manufacturers dictating the cost of their products is not punishment, it is basic economics.

More legally owned firearms, in the possession of those who are not interested in harming others for their own selfish benefit. More legally owned firearms, in the possession of those who are not involved in gang disputes or turf wars, and who are truly in need to defending themselves when the legal system is broken and continually releases the same known murderers over and over again, because no witnesses wish to cooperate with law enforcement.

I don't know. maybe, maybe not. Although all the problems in Chicago and everywhere else is quite a stretch and nothing could fix that. I do know that on average lax gun laws reduce crime and tighter gun laws have little effect.
