..and there's the other reason people own, because people like you want to "force" others to do your bidding. That makes you no different than the feller who commits robbery, rape, or murder.

Your "prefrence", hmmm... Let me make this clear, you, and people like you who want to restrict/take my guns, justifies me having them. It is my right as an American and nothing has warrented you or anyone else to change that.

is it your preference that only NY cops should be handling gun sales?

8 Officers Charged With Gun Trafficking in U.S. Corruption Case
    By WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM

The final version of this article that appeared in the newspaper can be read here.

Eight current and former New York Police Department officers were arrested early Tuesday on federal charges including gun trafficking and conspiracy to smuggle cigarettes, according to people briefed on the case.

The charges allege that the officers — five are still on the force and three are retired — were involved in illegally transporting more than a dozen handguns as well as M-16 assault rifles and shotguns and a variety of stolen property, the people briefed on the case said. The officers, along with a former New Jersey correction officer and three civilians, were arrested at their homes before sunrise by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and investigators from the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, the people said.

The gun-trafficking allegations strike at the heart of one of the New York Police Department’s most hard-fought and robust initiatives, and one that has been a central theme of the administration of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg: getting guns off the street of New York City.

And the arrests come at a difficult time for a department already besieged by corruption allegations large and small, including a case in which 16 officers are expected to face charges in the coming days in a ticket-fixing scandal in the Bronx. In recent weeks, testimony at the trial of narcotics detective has featured accusations that he and his colleagues in Brooklyn and Queens planted drugs or lied under oath to meet arrest quotas and earn overtime, leading to the arrests of eight officers, the dismissal of hundreds of drug cases because of their destroyed credibility and the payout of more than $1 million in taxpayer funds to settle false arrest lawsuits.

And two other officers, in additional unrelated federal cases, have been charged in recent weeks with criminal civil rights violations accusing them of trumping up charges against innocent victims. In one case on Staten Island, a white officer is accused of falsely arresting a black man and then bragging........

Indirectly when you say this: "It's a voluntary transaction between two consenting adults that hurts nobody.", directly infers that there is no problem. I would like some more control over this "tool". If we really want to curb gun violence, we need to take the harder look none of you are willing to take. Try to hide behind "rights", the 2nd, or "anti-punishment" but it's an empty gesture. It's no different than the people resisted the seatbelt laws with similar reasoning.

I'm not talking complex here, I'm not sure why everyone here wants to just argue whatever they think is easiest to win. If you want to convince yourself that there is no way to stop a criminal from owning a smallarm, you are a fool. What is unpopular is my view, one which puts a lot of blame on who it belongs.

It's amazing how stupid people act, people allow the PATRIOT Act to pass, no complaints, because it's a Republican doing it and then get all rabid when some sensible gun legislation comes around. Fools.

Who knew, cops are pieces of (*)(*)(*)(*) sometimes. You are actually arguing for my case. I want to see greater control on the firearm. This isn't rocket science.

you sure missed that one. I was demonstrating that all LEO's are (*)(*)(*)(*)ing corrupt and we can use guns to defend ourselves from these people as well as those folks who are trying to dictate what our Rights are, like you..........and this also shows where the criminals get their guns, from the damned police..............you know, those folks who YOU trust to keep you safe.........so much for YOUR safety.................better arm yourself

Considering I hate the the patriot act I guess you must be talking to someone else. Besides, it was passed by both sides of the aisle so it makes us all fools, and it continues to be reinstated and strengthened with a new president.

You could try to ban guns, but it wont have much effect in America, their are too many. Besides it seems you like the government so much and hate your fellow man than you are willing to make essentially everyone who is law abiding a criminal. your wish is to tell your neighbor he is the problem and only the government can fix it. I have never understood those who think the government, which is capable of such horrible decisions and tragedies is the solution to the problem. Maybe you should read up on your history and realize the government is responsible for more murders of Americans than your fellow brother and neighbor is.

Damn right I "hide" behind "rights". Rights are important. The state has limited, enumerated powers. Not only does the Federal government have no authority to restrict your ability to own weapons, it explicitly cannot! If you want to change this then fine, change the constitution.

Seat belt laws have little to do with this issue, it's more like the drugs issue. Nobody is coerced in the transaction, so it should be legal. However, while people can get high all they like, sometimes drugs can lead you to kill others or yourself. Despite this, the transaction is voluntary. Law enforcement should restrict the negative uses of the drug, not all of them - as this would transgress the rights of those who are using drugs for personal use without coercing anyone else.

Same with guns, stop the coercive uses, leave untouched the legitimate uses. This leads to a nation in which guns are completely legal and unregulated, but law enforcement cuts down hard on those using guns for violence.

Take a hike! That BoR is there for a reason, and it sure aint there to allow you to establish authority over me. You don't want your Rights, I find that more than acceptable, because you don't deserve them in any way shape or form. You admire the police state like some good little Leninite. People often measure others against themselves. You cannot trust anyone because you cannot trust yourself.
Now me, I'll stand in front of my Rights, while you hide behind some trustworthy uniform with badge. Oh, that's right, there aint a cop in NYC that can be trusted............... leave the country because this ain't gonna change anytime soon.
One last thought, never mind, it would only be lost on you.............. heil Stalinistas
