Dear GOP lawmakers, please STOP telling everyone the border is open and everyone is allowed it. You know it is not true, and whether you realize it or not, this fake message is exactly the reason which is fueling the surge at the border. Can you not realize your language is encouraging people to make the journey here? You KNOW the border is not open and that 1.5 million people have already been deported, so why do you keep spreading the fake news? Scoring political points cannot take priority over issues like this.

Democrats take over, and border crossings are at historical highs.

Nah, the border is guarded, which is why we have record number of apprehensions and deportations. Nothing sends the message more clearly than our politicians actually saying it in the media, and then repeating it on daily bases.

Perhaps we should define the meaning of open border. The law states that it is illegal to enter the U.S. anywhere other than through a port of entry. If you allow people to enter anyplace they wish then that is an open border. I welcome your definition. What has surged the illegal immigration on the Texas border is an open border.

 

There are no moratoriums. The Republicans are the only people saying the border is open. As a matter of fact US extended Title 8 expedited deportations in August. Title 8 expulsions alone add up to nearly 1 million this year.

Its very simple, - we would not have 1.5 million people sent back if the border was open. We would not be in process of flying people back to Haiti if the border was open. The people from Haiti are coming openly in full view because they thought the border was open. Then they were detained, and now they are sent back.

Typically at an open border you only see a sign telling you are entering another country. This is an open border between two EU nations. There is no immigration check, - you don't even have to slow down.



US - Mexico border. Everyone is screened and entry documents are demanded, and cars are searched. This is an example of a border which is NOT open.
