If only we could come up with a technology to create individual profanity filters. You know, something like box you can check or an option. That would make everybody happy.

    The profanity filter is stupid.

If I tell you to **** off how do you read that in your head? Do you read it as star, star, star, star, or as the word you know it is?

As a christian I don't want to read any of your profanities. The other political forums all seem to allow it. I liked this site because they tried to block swearing and it is not even needed. You can get your point across without having to use rude or foul language. If you can't control your emotions on here then politics may not be good for you. I suggest doing something that is more calm and relaxing like fishing. I always find it to be nice and peacefull. Sorry but I am being honest here. I don't like or care for profanity.

Please keep the filter on to be polite to everyone on the forum. Thank you.

Just because you prefer to use profanity does not mean the rest of us should be forced to read it. I can get my point across without having to use foul language and it's really not that hard at all if you can control your emotions. There are plenty of other political forums out there if this one is not your cup of tea.

I like this site because it does not allow profanity which is only fair to those of us that can't stand to read it. If the site removes the filter I will probably leave. It's just better for me if I don't read profanities as I don't need to be constantly reminded of them. I thank the moderators for the filter. I have over 500 posts and no infractions and I have been in many heated arguments on here without using profanities. It's really not that hard of a thing to let go of. You don't need them.

How are people that use profanity more intelligent? I am a college graduate and I don't need profanity to be smart or more intelligent. That's just stupid and I don't believe any of those studies.

Sometimes I feel like randomly adding stars to a comment.

It would give me a giggle thinking about all the stuff people would read in their heads, & wondering what the hell I was thinking.... Maybe even think I have textual Tourettes ...

People on here seem to confuse insults for "expressive profanity". Of course, the previous has no place in any kind of discussion ever and is just immature and I suppose this is the primary reason we have the filter. The latter, however, is just how most people actually talk and, imo, should be allowed.

Of course, taking away the filter would give the mods more work to do and I guess we, thus, will just have to get used to it being a part of this forum.

If somebody swears too much for our taste (or if we just don't like them) I suppose we could always click on their name then hit the "Ignore" button so they never show up on our screen?
But personally I never ignore such people because it's much more fun slapping them around..:)

I am also a Christian... and I like fishing. Swearing in God's name is egregiously wrong and I avoid that. The rest is mostly the common speech of our wretched 21st-Century culture. I don't go to great lengths to find opportunities to use "profanity", but if my posts offend you, please, by all means, put me on "ignore". The majority of hyperliberal, radical Democrats in this Forum already do, and although I don't suspect you of being one of them, you may find your own political ruminations to be more relaxing by blotting me out of your awareness, and thus find your life to be more relaxing also... like fishing.... :fishing:

All forums have mods and when you signed up on PF you actually agreed to follow their rules. :) This is not about snowflake-ism, but more about having civil discussions in an adult-like environment; I respect the admins' view and I think mods do a good work on here.

And this is said by someone who is terrible at following the rules lol. I've recieved like a trillion infractions.

Or that. I'm guessing that the average age on this forum is late 20's early 30's, so the idea of a profanity filter on this board is kinda silly.

Did you click the "I agree"-box upon registration, yes or no? Exactly, so you did agree to be nannied afterall. I am not a big fan of the filter either, but I appriciate the people on here and since discussion is what I am looking for, I do not bother too much about the filter.

The mods are consistent and principled and therefore deserve some respect imo.
