1. In an op-ed published in the South China Morning on 30 November 2019, the UN commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, urged authorities in Hong Kong to conduct "a proper independent and impartial judge-led investigation into reports of excessive use of force by the police." Excerpts follow: ....I appeal to all sides to unequivocally condemn violence that has led to serious injury and death. And I appeal to the government to take important confidence-building measures, including a proper independent and impartial judge-led investigation into reports of excessive use of force by the police.... 2. The UN rights chief will win the respect of the whole world if she has the guts to call for a simultaneous impartial probe into the following Hong Kong issues: (a) An independent investigation into the alleged use of force by police. (b) An independent investigation into the vandalism and arson committed by the rioters against public and private properties and their intimidation and assault against anyone who dares to oppose them in the past six months. Bachelet should get out of her "comfort zone" in the UN office and go to Hong Kong to look at the mess in college campuses which the rioters had turned into improvised weapons factories and fortresses. Then she will find that Hong Kong’s protests have descended into savagery –- with university campuses leading the charge. (c) An independent investigation into US infiltration into China through Hong Kong as seen from a photo of a senior official from the US consulate talking to several student protest leaders in the lobby of a local luxury hotel. Bachelet will definitely qualify to be the next secretary-general of the United Nations if she dares to probe into US bid to turn Hong Kong into a "chessboard" in its Cold War with China.
She should also investigate human rights abuses carried out by the Chinese authorities against their own people, including the concentration camps used against muslims.
