I see a lot of anti-bullying meme's on FB, but other than that, are there any ongoing efforts to curb bullying? Are they successful?
I think kids are more aware of what bullying is and the consequences that can follow...especially with social media being so commonplace. I do think the anti bullying campaigns have helped lesson it and helped those being bullyed to deal with it in a healthy way...not taking the bullying personally and knowing the problem lies with the bully. I see a big difference between my school years in the 70s and with my teenagers school experience today.
IMHO it seems worse now and getting more so as there's a myriad more outlets for bullying to be seen, disseminated and targeted.
I'm seeing people say they feel that anti-bullying campaigns are worthwhile, but even the examples of a "successful" program that were presented in this thread are unknown to me. I think that part of the criteria necessary in order to quantify a program or campaign as "successful" would be that it is influences a great number of people to stop bullying. If the effort is largely unknown to the populace it cannot be deemed successful. Maybe it is time some one takes a closer look on how to deal with bullying.
Liberalism has turned kids into giant ******* now. They want to tell a 10 yr. old boy its more important to play with a Barbie Doll then stand up to someone taking their lunch money.
Thought provoking thread. First, the bulling now is worse because it is often aired so hundreds see your humility. However, being able to cope with bullies is an important lesson in life. It prepares you for the real world. Many are unable to cope now because they were not allowed to learn this skill. This is one of the reasons for so many suicides. The fact is that children do not comprehend consequences especially at the younger ages. They will be cruel and often mean. Liberals fail to realize this. In effect they want to criminalize human nature. Kids are going to pick on each other, big brothers are going to beat the crap out of you. That is life. I see the biggest problem is in our education system. It is basically ran by the nerds who were picked on as youths. Now they see it as their cause to make sure it doesn't happen to any other child. I agree that it should not be allowed to extreme. However, some bulling is always going to happen and in part of growing up. In truth, the teachers who are trying to end bulling are often the biggest bullies now. They often take the side of some instigator who pushes his luck with someone bigger that he then hides behind the teacher. If they stayed out of it the kid would get punched and learn a lesson. Now he thinks he can get by with anything.
A lot of truth in that. There are a lot of people who dwell in the "I am a victim" world. The stop the bullies crowd play right into their mental illness. I once had a new hire manager in my department. I gave her a project. It wasn't a hard project but it would require her to reach out to some of the field managers to obtain some data and compile it in a manner that I could present it at a board meeting. I always did this with new managers so I could determine how much drive and capability they had. I expected this done in a day or two at the most. After four days, I called her into my office and she had done nothing. I asked her why and she said she did not know where to start. I asked her if she conferred with her supervisor or coworkers and she said no. I told her that was not acceptable and she needed to step up her game. She quit and told HR that I had bullied her. She then had the nerve or ignorance to use me as a reference when applying for another job.
Any teacher I have talked too tell me that racism is more prevalent between whites and blacks and Mexicans. It isn't discussed much or reported as often as it should be. I live in a resort city and we have two different groups that hang out at the ocean. Family types in the day and blacks at night. There is plenty of social conflict at nights but it is rarely reported on the news. See no evil, speak no evil?
