Dont worry I will try to keep it to black and white images but I may post radiology images of real cases https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-11...t-viral-says-gun-lobby-started-fight/10497982
We know that bullets damage bodies. That's why they were invented. Can you also share photos of other horrific violence like car wrecks and house fires?
They gonna talk about the "medical errors" that kill 250k people per year? Is that their lane? Because my lane is understanding the constitution and writing law. Was that what they trained for in medical school?
He did it toooooo! Is NEVER a valid excuse But this is less about the damage that bullets can do than about the NRA attempting to silence medical officers
Really?? You have a link with validated research that states medical mistakes kill quarter of a million people per year - reallly?? Let me look at the source of this So, guess work from someone who has a vested interest in selling a book Talk about trying anything to justify the horrific gunshot injury rate the USA has and the actions of the NRA in trying to silence any critics
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cn...-third-leading-cause-of-death-in-america.html Study by John's Hopkins good enough for you chuckles?
Hopefully that will not be made public because the NRA sycophants have a horrible history of stalking people who speak out on gun control and threatening violence It has happened to me on this board - a new poster threaten to drive to my home and shoot me - I invited him to do so since that would mean he would have had to drive across the Pacific Ocean - made a bet with myself he would be dumb enough to try exactly that lols!!!!
Bowerbird, did you know armor piercing bullets are less damaging to people's bodies because they just make a narrow hole right through the victim rather than flattening out? Maybe you would like to talk about switching the law around to start restricting regular bullets instead of armor piercing ones? Because this is all about preventing civilian injury, isn't it? (And let's also keep in mind here that gun control advocates have been trying to ban bullet proof vests from the public, so presumably this wouldn't result in any civilian deaths that would otherwise have not happened)
Does NOT link to a peer reviewed study and again it is speculation because there is an admitted lack of definitive data Now back to the topic Are physicians allowed to speak up and research gun control?
Very revealing. I hear that area is gentrifying fast though, so the problem should soon take care of itself. A lot of homeless people from that former community who can no longer afford to rent though...
Bejasis but I love ****ing ignorance!! Google "morbidity bullet wounds" as I do not have time this morning
Bowerbird, why would you consider the violence rate in Oakland to be comparable to any other developed country? U.S. has more diversity than Australia, so I'd say some of these particular cities in question are still doing better than South Africa or Nigeria. There's no reason to think gun control would do much to stem the violence. Meanwhile, I hear the gun violence rate in Chinatown is pretty low.
...... you didn't even open the link did you? Do you honestly believe that posters here are that stupid? "Sadly, Emily's case is not unique. According to a recent study by Johns Hopkins, more than 250,000 people in the United States die every year because of medical mistakes, making it the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer." ^ 5th paragraph in the link AND ITS HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN SO YOU KNOW ITS A LINK https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/new...rs_now_third_leading_cause_of_death_in_the_us https://journals.lww.com/jhqonline/...ence_and_Data_Transparency_of_National.4.aspx There. Happy now little birdy? Are they allowed to voice an opinion on law? Of course, see 1st amendment. Is that "their lane"? **** no, not unless they also hold a law license.
I think they should feel free to express an opinion on the local laws, where they're seeing their patients. An emergency room doctor in Michigan is probably going to call for tougher drug laws because of all the overdose cases they see. A doctor in Mississippi is maybe going to be inclined to call for legalized dietary restrictions on fatty foods and big restaurant portions.
I think they should feel free to voice any opinion they should like, but if they want to claim that understanding the constitution and writing laws is "their lane" I'm going to mock them incessantly.
Another strategy to help stem the gang violence in these areas might be to make guns designed to only shoot rubber bullets more accessible. The gangs are still going to shoot each other, maybe they could at least be cajoled to use rubber bullets when doing it. (Then again, that's if we want them to survive)
The new Republican mantra ... Doctors shouldn't be allowed to talk about trauma patients. Climatologists shouldn't be allowed to talk about climatology. Oceanographers shouldn't be allowed to talk about the ocean. Women shouldn't be allowed to discuss their uterus. WTF Republicans? Crazy town with an extra heaping of crazy.
Well guns are made to kill things. Some of the fact that the Target is actually killed is of no surprise or really any relevance to the discussion. I'm not about to say a doctor or a garbage man or a principal of a high school or some unemployed bum can't have an opinion as to the legality of gun ownership. Further if Dr. Melinek wants federal guidelines based on Research or the smell of unicorn farts or whatever metric anyone decides to pull out of their ass why don't they form an association like the NRA? Random people complaining isn't going to do anything it never has. There's nothing in the wall or in society that says you can't have the NRA antithesis. If she wants doctors to research gun violence then she either has to pay them or find volunteers there's no reason doctors can't do research on anything. If she's tired of dealing with gunshot victims then she might need to find a different vocation. It is the work of a doctor to treat the ill or injured. Some people are injured by guns some people are injured by vehicles others by slipping and falling in the tub. if by her saying she's tired of treating people with gunshot wounds because she doesn't like the violence I can agree with that. People shouldn't hurt other people. But this is part of human nature. I would love for that part of human nature to change but people have been killing one another in vast numbers for Millenia before the Advent of the fire arm. and if you could find some magical spell to make them all disappear they would be killing each other until the species evolved.
Emergency trauma room doctors in the UK created a push for the government to ban knives, and their efforts nearly came close to succeeding, by the way.
