Wow! The current unrest is much more intense than the 1992 Los Angeles riots. I would hate to be a postal carrier in one of the big cities being affected by these protests.

When I was a child (early 60s) a friend told me about some little African-American kids from Mississippi that she knew. She said that these kids were so terrified of White people that they would run if they saw one coming near them. My friend tried to calm their fears, telling them that in California they didn't have to be scared of Whites like that. But, they had seen so much hatred and terrorism directed toward African-Americans until they couldn't be convinced.
    True story.

True. Those little African-American kids from Mississippi had an unconscious reaction. They had seen and heard enough to have a healthy fear of Whites.

So, why are the Whites afraid of African-Americans? Have they all personally suffered at the hands of African-Americans?

Probably not so much, country folks own backhoes and hogs and bags of lime and sit up in trees for hours with guns ready, for the fun of it. Someone will need luck but it aint the residents, believe that.

You can obviously agree it works both ways can't you?

Just different causes of fear. The only solution I can see is a comming together of people. Only love and respect towards each other will achieve a untited people.

The friend you mentioned in your first post is only fueling hate and causing a division with that horrible attitude.

This is a very good question and I don't know if fear is the word I would use. It is more apprehension. It is difficult to talk race with black folks but very easy to talk fishing or sports. I don't hold any anamosity toward black folks so why talk race? There is only one race.... The human race.

I think I agree with most of this. I would love to see a world where race is completely insignificant and everyone considers each other the same.

Americans have a short memory and some People causing damage are probably just trying to keep attention on this issue.
Others are doing it because it’s the “cool” thing to do, and those types need to grow a pair and get a life.

First off I would argue you engage in stereotypical negative subjective assumptions of all white people and so proving you are established you engage in the same bigottry you accuse whites of.

Secondly the premises of your thread appears to have been to present a story to then justify your bigoted beliefs of all whites.

Given that, I must question whether your opening story is fabricated and a clumsy attempt to provide yourself an excuse to be a bigot.

Given the propensity of homo sapiens to be pack animals and think with pack or herd mentality and given the failure so far of our attempts to repress this behaviour trying to use religion, art and politics, I would say we still have a long way to go until we evolve past our primal pack behaviour. That said I also believe we must never give up getting to the point you mention.

I also think a lot of it will have to do with how we manage our economy. I believe our current economic systems in ALL countries divide and conquer people based on how much material we can accumulate to then use this an imbalance in material to exploit those without the material. Our very premise of economic human interaction is based on exploiting or taking advantage of one another, not sharing. As long as that behaviour prevails, a certain level inequality will always exist between the haves and have nots at a material level which then spills over into other areas of how we perceive each other.

On a material level, and on a purely biological level or intelligence level no one is born equal. We know that. We are all as different as our fingerprints. We have things in common of course, but we will always have things that make us unique.

I would like to get to a point where we can treat people the way we ourselves would want to be treated-we get to that point of connection between how we would feel and how others feel.

I don't think we need to treat everyone the same-I like being recognized for being different. I think what you mean and I agree with is when you say treat us the same, we treat people with equal respect or we treat them as we want to be treated.

I am sure you would be the first to respect someone's differences for the same reasons you present the ideals you did. So I agree I just add to the thought.

I think some not all extremists mistake treating people the same as meaning they can censor and control what others think when they find them "politically unacceptable".

I am not comfortable with political correctness these days and how extreme it has gotten in trying to dictate to people what thoughts they must have.

That pretty interesting. I'm sure it's something we would all like to see, for sure.

Although I sometimes think it may never be possible. Perhaps it's too deeply ingrained in human nature and even our DNA to ever make it possible. Mabye we will never brake away from our urges to remain tribal.

Well they've been waiting for decades for the Democrats to actually do something about their plight.. or maybe they are just satisfied with the Government Cheese and the same old platitudes and lies from the Democrats.

Any word on when they plan to make good on their threats to move into rural areas? Not a crime show, real life in the boondocks. It's nothing for a good old boy and his family to own 8 to 15 guns and more.

The person in my OP is not a personal friend. That story was something I read in another political message board. But, I don't believe he was trying to fuel hate. He was only sharing a conversation he had with a White friend.

But----what do you think about the issue of African-American people's anger? Is that anger the reason we are having protests in the street right now?
(I'm not going to let you make this about me. Please address the OP. Thank you.)

I have no idea what anyone's plans are. You'd have to ask the people involved.
Question: Is it true that there is a shortage on ammunition for some guns? My grandson owns a few guns and my daughter says he has been having trouble finding ammunition.
I just thought you might know.:)

I read that someone about ammo shortage. Probably a shortage due to the virus effecting production or panic buying in a time of tension ?

I would hate to think the government are preparing for dark times and trying to limit the availability of ammo to civilians. I doubt it but I suppose it could be possible?

I had an experience once working as a cook when I was a kid. The waitress had a fillet mignon order and told me the customer wanted it cooked 15 secs on one side and 15 secs on the other. I thought it was crazy. But I had seen customers order hamburger for their dogs. Well, the customer complained about the steak and refused to pay. The waitress set him up. He was a black dude that wanted a good steak and I bet we ruined his whole day. Just because of some silly waitress.

So I didn't ask for his steak cooked like that?

If the waitress purposely messed up the steak did you ever find out the reason why?

Everyone I know is well stocked and always has been. Maybe for last minute, first time gun buyers. Ammo keeps for decades :)
