I had 2 beautiful kittens. But when they started to grow up, they started to fight. One kitty became dominant and the other kitty started to loose more fights. Then, one day, this kitty (the loser) decided to snob me and moved into another house at the other street. Now I can't even get a reaction. And I thought we were good friends. I think I should freak out. Have you had a kitty like this? What do you do when your cat decides to get rid of you?
Funny story, but then rather sad.... I've had cats since I was a country kid (don't have one rite now) and this never happened to me - BUT cats are such independent creatures, they will go and find another home or 2, m/b 3.... they're fickle critters. At least 10 yrs ago a beautiful pure white cat showed up in my daughter's backyard. It was obviously owned b/c it was clean and well-cared for. My kid named her Tequila and she never really left...... occassionally she does for several days, but she always comes back. Tequila even learned how to open the patio door and sneak in the house.... Unless you got her and kept her housebound, I don't think you'll get her back...but then she may be having a snit-fit about something and will return... You've heard the saying "Call a dog and he'll come to you. call a cat and they'll take a message" - very true.
Some males especially if not fixed hit the road.....They are not even close to dogs, they don't need us,,great pets though...
My little sweetheart wouldn't dare.Wouldn't even dream of it. Now my first cat did exactly what you said.She was my neighbors cat and they had 4.I guess she was the lone wolf of the 4.But they let her outside becuase she used to use their bathtub as a litter box. She came over to my front door and bushes a few times and I let her in a couple times.But I always put her back outside.Then one day in the dead of winter she got trapped inside my garage.It was around 10 degree outside I remember.As soon as I opened the garage she bolted. I had no idea.I told the neighbor and he didn't seem worried.Which I thought was strange since he had practically a houseful of cats. So he asked me If i wanted her and I obliged.My first cat was THE best gift I ever got in my entire life. Now here's the strange part.I had her for about 7-8 years and I didn't know how old she was.I asked the neighbor like 3 different times and he couldn't say.I guess she was a stray when he got her. Well,there were 2 stray cats who hung around the neighorhood and they stayed at my other neighbors house,when they weren't out straying around.I'd catch one of the strays about every month ripping thru whatever brown bags of garbage i left in my garage.My inherited cat was an outside inside cat.But she never left my yard.Never.I think she was afraid of those tougher/stronger strays.I few times i'd catch the one stray in my bushes waiting as if she was about to pick a fight with my cat.In fact a couple times I heard my cat on the verge of a scrap with the stray.The other stray was older and very fuzzy.I think she was too old and lazy to bother like her kitty pal,the younger/tougher stray. My Cat eventually had problems,first with a skin disease then a thyroid problem where I had to give her a pill twice a day.She got progressively older until she was almost pooped out.But this is important. The last few days of her life,and she still went out to sit outside on the driveway especially when the sun was out,she one day was no longer where I could see/find her.I went looking in some of her hiding spots in the bushes and and even under the driveway in the storm drain { she liked that in the summer months } She was no where in the garage { under my work bench which she also liked }.Then I saw her.Strangest thing I'd almost ever seen. Her health was declining and she lost a lot of her appetite and moved noticeably with effort.But she was on the sidewalk,down the street at my next door neighbors house where those 2 strays called home.She was there and so were the 2 strays.As if they were pals and kinda socializing. She was so afraid of those strays and always ran off whenever one of them got near my garage.That day however she must have walked down and made her kitty peace with strays.I think it was that she knew she hadn't long to live and she needed to be with her own,at least for a little while. She needed to be around cats when nature was calling. I learned a very important lesson that day.
Cats are not pets. At best they are good roommates. At worst they are like that college buddy who would come over drunk and pass out at your apartment in the middle of the night when he couldn't hook up.

I grew up a dog person because my father hated cats.He considered them killers which they are.But both my huskies killed far more creatures than any Cat could have.I always liked cats but never owned one as a pet until late 1990's.My last Husky passed away a couple-3 years ago. And that was in October.It was harder on me to lose my first cat than it was my 2nd husky.
LOL! "Cats are not pets"? Some of them certainly are - depends upon how they feel about you. The thing w/cats is that THEY adopt you, you don't adopt them.....THEY make that decision. It's like Tequila. She showed up in my daughter's yard over 10 yrs ago and she's still there, waiting for her food/water and outdoor covered bed when it gets really cold.....SHE adopted daughter and family..... She was never invited in the house (SIL is allergic to cat hair) so she learned herself how to open patio door and invited herself in..... she was caught one day when daughter was headed towards family room where patio door was. She saw Tequila running across the yard, leaped up on stacked chairs next to door, saw Tequila's arm stretch across the door to the handle, pulled on it, door came open and in came Tequila...... that solved their mystery about who was leaving the door open..... They're very intelligent animals........
Umm, WHAT??? Gracie was my best friend for the 12 years she lived. She followed me around everywhere, and I even taught her a few words - 'bedtime', 'food', 'outside' and her nickname 'baby'. When I moved out of home I couldn't take her with me, and every time I came to see her, she'd snob me. She didn't even want a cuddle. Eventually though, she'd come around and nuzzle her furry head into my neck and purr so much she'd drool.
Hummingbird, I must respectfully disagree with part of what you are saying. I agree cat's adopt you, you don't adopt them, however - to them, you are the pet. I'm sorry, I know for most humans that is a hard thing to understand much less accept, but that is the cats perspective . . . Again, you capture the cats perception of us very well . . .
I'm sorry Makedde but that is the truth. You however, were a very disobedient pet, which is why she punished you by snobbing, before forgiving you and rewarding you with her attention.
HB is right about cats adopting us. They own us. We are their slaves, their masters, and you know what? I didn't mind. My Gracie wanted something, she got it, no matter how expensive it was. She was my world. I can't believe its been over 2 years since I lost her.
Aww, I didn't want to leave my precious baby but I had to!!! She understood in the end, I am sure. Grace was smart.
Well, thats why your punishment was light, a little snob then she accepted you back into her good graces. For heavens sakes, please do not really make a cat angry, for all our safety.
Grace was never angry. At least never with me! And when she was, her tail fluffed up. LOL. I love it when cats tail fluff up.
LOL! We are the cat's pet...... funny! Lol...... Well, you know - you just may be right! lol..... never tho't of it that way... I do luv cats and dogs - have had my share of both and one of these days am going to the pound and get me another fur baby..... The last cat I had was a black Manx I named Moxy b/c he was full of it. Had the craziest personality. He gave me 14 yrs of laughter and sometimes ... real annoyance...... I hope your kitty cat returns home and stays put.......
I had a cat named Raja when I was a kid. He was a huge jet black cat with solid green eyes. He had a yowl, not a meow and his purr sounded like a chainsaw in need of repair. I grew up in a rural area and he would take off for about three weeks at a time and them come home and laze around for a few days and take off again. I don't know how he got in the house but he would wake me up by biting my ears then he'd run to the kitchen and wait for me. He was the coolest cat I ever had and I did have some cool ones. He never came home one time so my mom told me he got married and couldn't visit anymore. I know the cad had a harem and ran into a coyote, but I let my mom believe what she wanted. My other favorite was Tuffy. He'd leave mice and moles in the laundry (we had a washer/dryer in a room off an open porch - told you it was a rural area).
I had two cats once. A male and female, both siblings. One day the female cat had kittens, picked them up one by one and disappeared never to be seen again. The male cat a couple months later suddenly disappeared and I found him 6 weeks later living on someone elses porch he had food and water and stuff so I guess that was his new family. I left him there feeling rather disgusted after raising the lazy bastard.
LOL! Sorry for laughing, but this is funny....... Don't you kind of wonder what you did? Mama Cat grabbed up her babies and high-tailed it out of your house and her brother soon found a new home w/o even a 'good-bye'........lol........
Yeah. A new neighbor moved in with a mean ass dog that constantly barked at the cats and they were outside cats and they never got along. I think that had something to do with it. Other than feed them and change their litter box, I ignored them and they ignored me. They were more the girlfriend and her kids cats than mine.
About 4 months ago I found a barely weened kitten hiding in the grass next to a really busy street, two old ladies who were nearby basically guilt tripped me into adopting it, plus my girlfriend had been wanting a kitten. I'm really glad I did. She's turned into a really good pet. She makes the house more interesting for sure, laughter in our household has increased exponentially. Also, it turns out that she's at least mixed with Maine Coon, she displays many of the characteristics plus is growing faster than usual. She'll be a 30 pound fluff ball in no time!
well, cats aren't women with low self esteem...if they get whooped on a regular basis, they aren't sticking around! The 'loser' isn't 'snubbing' you, he/she is getting away from an aggressor.
I had one neighbour down the street, some years ago, with a habit of 'stealing' my cats! He used to entice them in by feeding them more and more regularly, then keep them in his house for longer and longer periods, until they eventually decided not to bother coming back in to my house at all. He had 2 of my cats in this way (we had 6 at the time, who all got on well with each other and with our 2 dogs - he tried unsuccessfully with a third, but she was a tart anyway, and was eating and sleeping in at last 4 houses that I knew of!) - both were offspring of other cats of mine, and both were born in my house. There's nothing much that can be done about it, though - cats are always their own masters, and can always make such choices if the option is presented to them. that's why I don't try to feed anybody else's cat - I don't want to be the one accidentally 'stealing' someone else's pet.
About 6yrs ago we got a little half wild female kitten for my wife. She was so small that she`d fit in my hand. On the way home from picking her up, we stopped at a shoping centre for my wife to grab something. While we waited in the car park, this tiny ball of fur looked hazily into my eyes, I told her "you`re going to have a good life". I`ll never forget that moment, but I think it might have been a mistake. That kitten (Suki) completely rejected my wife, even now she follows me around like a dog, comes when I call her, she`s a fantastic little mate to me, but a total snob to my wife. About a year after getting Suki, when it had become evident that she`d never accept my wife, I suggested she get a little male pup. Charlie the fox terrior / jack russel cross arived on the scene, and from the minute my wife and Charlie set eyes on each other, it was love at first sight. Charlie loves everyone, but he`s completely besotted by my wife. I never tire of the sight of the two of them together. Funny thing though, we`re nearly sure that the cat has developed a maternal instinct for Charlie, she`s torn strips of quite a few big dogs that`ve been a bit rough with Charlie.
Nice story and some cats do bond w/particular people.... then some are very fickle and don't bond w/anyone.
